Old recording from 2015 - English news 87.8

Post by Nick Gilly »

Thought I'd post this here in case anyone can shed any light on this. It's a recording from 23rd May 2015 of a station received via Es from the south on 87.8. It's an English news broadcast with news from around the Middle East and Arab world:

I wondered if it was coming from Algeria (Radio Algeria International?) or Morocco, but there are no obvious candidates on FMLIST. I don't know how much has changed in the 5 years since this was recorded, but if anyone has any idea who may have broadcast this, it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.
Good DX.

this would be Radio Sol de Almijara, english language station from Nerja in the very south of Andalucía autonomic region:

RSA 87.8 fm
RADIO SOL DE ALMIJARA

RSA, the socio-cultural radio station broadcasting in English to the Axarquía community

RSA wants to serve the community in and around Nerja, aware that this community includes various nationalities who use English as a common language.

By offering a wide range of programmes, with presenters who come from very different backgrounds and develop their own styles, RSA remains committed to a great majority of live broadcasts.

RSA, unlike commercial radio, has no owners and is a non-profit making venture ploughing surpluses back into projects and promotions. Since its startup RSA has worked to fill its community role as an alternative educational and cultural resource by informing, entertaining, and involving international residents and visitors.

RSA, Nerja´s community radio station, has boosted its signal strength and coverage area. ACSA-Asociacíon Cultural Sol de Almijara-, through special sponsorship from local Spanish businesses, has been able to install technical enhancements of RSA that has resulted in better quality and enlarged reception.
We will be broadcasting programmes from the BBC World Service and The World Radio Network.
BBC WS is BBC World Service: news bulletin each hour + "Europe Today"

WRN is World Radio Network with overnight service and selected programming

Aha. Thanks for that. This actually rings a vague bell in that this station may have been suggested at the time and I'd forgotten about it. I've put it in the log as a 'presumed'.
Good DX.
