Vintage DX - anyone remember Radio Folie?

Post by Nick Gilly » 12 Jan 2019 20:44

Hi all.

Who can tell me more about this station? I remember logging it in the late 80s more than once during tropos to the SE. 106.4 is a frequency I definitely heard it, and I think 106.2 was another. From what I remember hearing during an ad break they used to serve parts of Picardie and bits north and NE of Paris. Towns I recall being mentioned were Soissons, Compiegne, Noyon and Montdidier. They used to sound very upbeat, slick and energetic to my ears. A Google search brings up nothing.

So when did they start, and what became of them? Do any of our French DXers know any more?

Thanks.
Good DX.

Thanks Sylvestre. No wonder I couldn't find it!

So it was actually a pirate. I remember that sung jingle "Radio Pholie, la FM des stars". I wonder what sort of power the transmitters put out?

That's a very interesting website btw, so thanks again for that. I found the entry for RVS FM, which used to blast in on 102.1 during tropo lifts just using a portable with a telescopic whip. It seemed to get out just as well as 100.1, so it must have been running high power:

Found the court case where the owner of Radio Pholie was charged with operating a pirate radio station:

It seems that the 106.4 tx may have been in the Amiens area.
Good DX.
