UNID French 99.3

Post by Nick Gilly » 29 Dec 2018 14:21

Hi all.

This was recorded on the morning of December 27th during that fabulous tropo to France and Belgium. I was beaming towards NE France/Belgium at the time. Normally I would suspect RTBF VivaCité from Bruxelles but I'm not sure with this one:

Is that a 'Radio ???' ID at 2 min 58 sec?

Thanks.
Good DX.

Hey Nick,
You received the Belgian public service radio station "RTBF Vivacité Bruxelles" as you suspected it.

The man on phone at the beginning of the recording has a Belgian accent and from 2:58 we can hear the song "Une Seule Vie" by Gérald De Palmas as referenced in the playlist of the day on the website of Vivacité:

Thanks very much Lucas. I thought it may have been Bruxelles but that 'ID' threw me. I'll amend the log.
Good DX.

Yes I confirm RTBF Vivacité 99.3 MHz (Bruxelles/Tour des Finances) :-)

"60 03" = the station's SMS phone number, heard at 1:36 and at 2:22 & "Philippe Jauniaux", speaker's name, heard at 2:12.
DX-FM & DX-TV in Normandy, France : Portenseigne 910 03 02 & Wisi EB-66 on Yaesu G450C.

Nice catch. In good times, this transmitter was obviously blasting up effective power between 20 and 25 kW and could be heard all the way to Bruges on 91.2 / 93.2 and 99.3 (despite locals next to it like Topradio Gent). French Contact on 102.2 next to StuBru and Flemish Contact on 98.4 were even better with estimated 50 kW. But that is history. The same for the arabic pirate station using 100.3 MHz which could reach Bruges from BXL-City with "official" 900 watts easily.

Thanks also to Sylvestre and PFM907. VivaCité does occasionally make it in here on 99.3 but it often has competition from BBC Radio 1 Tacolneston.

This was the most impressive catch of the tropo btw, received on 107.7 on the morning of December 27th with an ID near the end of the clip:
