Terrible S8 noise on MW band

Post by AMDXHUN » 21 Dec 2018 07:53

Terrible S8 noise appeared on the top of the MW band.

Probably a neighbour's chinese LED xmas light. Antenna is 60m away from houses... Any idea to solve this?
The antenna is a MiniWhip on 5m wooden pole with perfect grounding.

Take down the neighbour's Christmas lights!

Luckily, only one of my neighbours has Christmas lights on their bungalow. They are my closest neighbour, but there has been no interference so far, even with my flag pointing straight at them. Phew! They have one of those two-colour LED lasers which have become very popular here this year.

I cannot believe how cheap these things are now. The power supplies must be total shite!

A vertical active whip is the perfect antenna to pick up noise.......

Replace with Flag antenna with null towards point of QRN.

Holy Sh*t, that XMAS light (or another ting) pollutes the MAINS. So my SDR collecting the noise from the mains, at the place of antenna there is no noise on portable. How can I filter the Mains? Ferrite core didn't help :(

If your ferrite core does not look like "Fair-Rite 31 clamp-on core, Part No 0431177081" on http://www.ifwtech.co.uk/g3sek/in-prac/
then you are wasting your time.
