10-32000 kHz omni-dir antenna instead of MiniWhip?

Post by AMDXHUN » 19 Nov 2018 10:14

The MiniWhip picks up almost every noise from my neightbours despite 60m away from houses. A loop in horizontal mode can work?

A Flag antenna with noise source to its rear might work. An amplified loop will amplify your noise.

Since a few months, it's been impossible to use my Mini-Whip antenna because of a huge increase in noise level. Before this, it was my #1 choice for NDB and MW DX'ing (no space for a larger aerial due to very limited space at my current location).
Long gone are the days when I would mount large loops in the countryside ...

I'm now using a Wellbrook loop on my tiny balcony with decent results considering the situation.

Well done Patrick. I'm sure that you will get some good results.

The Wellbrook saved dxing for me. Of course we can't compete with a beverage or a well designed / sited flag, but in limited spaced it does remarkably well. Simon

Very very impressive :) But it is not Omni and it's price is my monthly salary. :(

You can’t have an omni-directional loop. And you want to attenuate the direction of your loudest noise sources.

An alternative direction is to have two antennas and phase cancel the noise.
