SkywavesDX links are blocked on Facebook/Messenger!

For everything "Off Topic"! Here you can discuss, rant, rave, in fact talk about anything non radio-related. Forum etiquette rules still apply.

SkywavesDX links are blocked on Facebook/Messenger!

Post by Lucas | TransistorFR » 10 Nov 2018 19:24

Good evening everybody,

I just wanted to point out that SkywavesDX is blocked on Facebook! Indeed, I wanted to send the link of a topic from the forum to a friend via Facebook Messenger but that's impossible and I'm getting this message:

"You can't share this link
http://*skywavesdx.org/viewtopic.php
Your message couldn't be shared, because this link goes against our Community Standards
If you think this doesn't go against our Community Standards let us know."

Are you experiencing the same issue?

Thanks for the info Lucas.

I just made a test post there and it got through straight away.

The problem with Facebook is that sometimes regular posts get banned and sometimes spam gets through. Although I am the group owner, I passed the responsibility of moderation over to someone else. I note there are 19 people requesting membership. I presume you are already registered? If not, this will be why your post wasn't allowed.

Please let me know if you are still unsuccessful posting. I will now check the new member applications.

Hmmm - it's nothing to do with membership of the Facebook Skywaves DX group.

I've just tried to FB messenger JF with the link to this thread and I get the same message. It seems as though FB does not like this Forum!!!

I clicked on the link FB provides and sent them the following message "You are blocking a radio enthusiasts forum. Please unblock."

FB also refuses to allow you to post a link to this forum on a FB post!

I've requested a review of this via an automated response to FB and repeated my message above.

I am sorry. I missed your point completely. Yes, I have also had the same problem when trying to post a link to this forum on Facebook. Oddly, it let me do it this evening.

Facebook is crap, that's why I don't do Facebook. There are better ways to sent a link than Facebook.

FB must have changed the blocking after I complained. I’ve just successfully sent a Skywaves link to JF through Messenger.

Stuart

Ps
Please no posts saying you don’t like FB. No one is interested.

You can now also post links to this forum on a FB post.

Chalk one up for the good guys!

Good evening!

Good work Stuart, but unfortunately it seems that the links are blocked again! I just tried to send a topic link via Messenger and I'm getting the same message as yesterday. There's something wrong with Facebook moderation, definitely!
I'm going to report that to FB as well.

Hmmm - this time links to the forum are ok on FB posts but being blocked in Messenger as Lucas says.

Once again I've requested FB to unblock. Might be useful if other people tried to pass a forum link in Messenger and then clicked through on the link provided to complain about the blocking.

I just tried again, the links are still blocked on Messenger even after my report to Facebook. I hope the problem will be solved soon.
Let's see later with a little patience...! ;)

The bottom line is, that Facebook are a law unto themselves. Contacting any global company these days is a waste of time. Just expect the worst every now and again. I HATE big companies with a passion.

We probably also need to consider that this is a free service, but a very controlling one too. We don't get something for nothing, but it's good when it works. I use Facebook, very reluctantly.

Just don't get me started on Ebay.

I've just checked and links to this forum are working on FB posts and messenger. QED contacting FB was not a waste of time.
