I don't have the time to do loads of live DXing, and I also can't concentrate on computer displays for too long before the neck starts aching. So I'm finding it necessary to auto-log a lot of the time.
This is not necessarily a bad thing as it gives me a good idea of wht openings have occurred - it also allows extra inpit to FMList for new stations/changed pi codes etc. Anyway looking at the auto-logs for today this is what arrived at my QTH. 1130-1320 UTC Tunisia, Algeria; 1320-1415 UTC Italy; 1650-1735 Morocco; 1735-1902 Spain and Morocco. I also have 3.5 Tb of recordings and only about 300 GB of disk space left!

The southern direction is definitely being favoured so far this season - maybe this year I'll get the Canary Islands or the Azores, but in order to do so I have to beam away from the Iberian peninsula and sacrifice Spanish/Algerian stations. I got Assa in Morocco at just under 2700 km a couple of days ago and there could well have been propagation to the Canaries at that time, but I was beaming t 180 deg on the fixed antenna

After that post Italy was in then Spain/Morocco started to appear and was strong unlike Italy anyway Morocco was near top of band with bit's of Spain now and again so not a bad opening hopefully some DX from Easterly direction.

Hello from a 4th floor holiday apartment on the seafront at Llanelli. This is the first day with no e skip to north Africa .
Yesterday at 1912utc I had BBC world service English on 104.4 , I believe this is Horizon FM, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso via multi hop. (Px was Episode of hard talk)

Check your recordings from around that time and see if you had it too, good luck.

Band is fairly quiet now just the big French txs Rennes, Brest, Caen, Rouen.

I definitely recommend Llanelli for a dxing holiday, especially the new holiday apartments on the machynys peninsular.

. I've just gone and deleted my recording around that time.

I shall check the slightly earlier times which covered 89 - 98 MHz.

By any chance was it a talk show with a male presenter speaking English with an Irish accent?? I had dismissed this as being a low powered local station. Or would it have been in French?

There is a pretty good chance that I got Western Sahara on 99.9 at 1827-1830 UTC with a pi code of 1281. "Pretty good chance" - as nearly all the propagation was on a bearing of 198-202 deg and the Moroccan station was on a bearing on 190 deg. Paul in East Sussex logged SNRT-Quran fro the same site at 1850 UTC - but wondered if there was a closer unlisted [MRC] station.

The presenter was Owen Bennett Jones,
The guest had some kind of non English accent for sure,

It was very strong but very short lived

I would think that 1281 on 99.9 would be from Zaio, not Gueltat Zemmour. The Zaio tx is a regular during Es to that direction. As for SNRT Quran on 88.3, yes I logged it on Sunday, but again, according to Mike Fallon there is a closer tx somewhere in southern Morocco, so again, more likely to be this. Paul Farley's notes say "not convinced with this (Western Sahara), closer unlisted TX?".

As for 104.4, I've no idea. It would be fantastic if it really was from Burkina Faso.

Not wanting to put a dampener on things but just to say that the closer txes are going to be a more likely bet. Southern Morocco is still a good distance.
Good DX.

I believe this is NOT Horizon FM, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso via multi hop.

I believe it is probably Talk Radio Europe from southern Spain who just happen to relay the BBC WS at this time...

Sorry Tim. I think your BBC WS on 104.4 was much more likely to be Talk Radio Europe from Mijas. Look at the schedule here:

https://www.talkradioeurope.com/schedule/

For Monday evening it has listed BBC World Service from 2100-23.59 local, which works out as 1900-2159 UTC. So it would have been airing the World Service at the time of your reception.

Maybe next time.

That's a bummer. Sorry to read this Tim.

The same thing happened to me with my presumed Ghanaian reception. I mean, any fool would know that a 100% positive identification of "This is Adventist World Radio, Ghana." would point to a relay in Melilla. :?

Keep at it though. Hopefully you'll get something from the Canaries while you are over in Wales.
