Eleven here! The longest run of Es days I've known. I may have missed something earlier this morning, otherwise I could make that TWELVE!

Well.. in the end it was a fairly decent season thanks to those 3 weeks in June that will go down in history, certainly the best season since 2013, after 2 stinkers and one a little better.

May was a washout until the last few days and July was poor here up to at least the 15th.
Since then I've kept a cursury eye on things while not being able to participate fully after the birth of my daughter on 15th July.
Impression is that August has burbled on with a few openings.

Looking at the chart on MMMoVHF (relates to 2m Es), it seems that this season has come out as average overall, just below the 10 year mean, bearing out my gut feel about conditions on Band 2. July being the quietest July since 2002.
It's worth noting that there haas been almost no 2m openings in August and very little in July. The Band 2 activity in recent days won't have had any effect on the graph.

Marks out of 10? I'd give it 7.5 given the excellent June.

It is certainly going out with a bang at the end of August with, for me, excellent Es reception on the 25th and 30th and some ES on the 27th and 28th.

June was excellent with about 30 different countries heard in Germany after a late start end of May, but July was weak and August had almost none.

What´s going on these days? Haven't noticed any activity of sporadic-E for 14 days now. Only one remarkable opening so far this year, and that has been on May 11th. Never experienced such a lousy kick-off. May is almost over, don't think there will be much more the last couple of days. I wonder what`s happening upon the sun as there is not even a single trace of a signal down here... I hope this is getting far better in June with some interesting catches from the Balkans.

I was of the understanding that this season was off to a GOOD start. There have already been several days of Es activity. Compare with some previous seasons. I have even noted Balkan activity myself on two occasions, but my heart is not fully in it at the moment. I haven't made a single logging. Just no time. I *am* keeping my eye on things though, should something BIG happen.

Sporadic E is very much luck of the draw. Those on the east and south coasts *might* be in with a better chance, being a little closer to the activity. But I must stress *might* as Es can surprise us at the most unlikely times and in the most unlikely of places. Look at the Es over eastern Europe and Scandinavia again already!

In last year's patchy 'fits and starts' Es season, I had my best band 2 DX ever, with Israel and Palestine across the band.

Patience is a very necessary virtue in this game.

(Might move the last two posts to a new thread if nobody objects.)

It's been very bad indeed but promising yesterday with R1 video 6m active and Band II open also for a few hours...I have just found out that monitoring 50.313 for FT8 is quite a good indicator for any Es...

in fact, I have seen very interesting logs from UK in 2018, from Mike as well. he has heard Malta on several QRGS, even the high 104.6 with Smash Radio. excellent logs from the islands. however, activities in Germany and on the mainland have been pretty low throughout the past 20 days. Watch the UKWTVDX Forum, look at FMSCAN / my FM..there hasn't been much of ES until now so far. I am monitoring daily between 9 AM and 10 PM with 3 radios (2 FM + 1 OIRT) but there's just nothing going on on VHF-II. There has been some TV condx. on VHF-I but due to the program that is not interesting in my opinion, I am not after watching TV. FM (and OIRT-FM) is much more interesting to me, especially when stations from remote countries (Scandinavia, Balticum, Balkans, Middle East) are coming through. In the past 10 years, there was almost no week without any RDS catches from Greece or Spain. And now? I cannot remember having had one RDS log in 2018 so far. Early start on May 11th, yes. Also some signals, but not much. And silence on both, CCIR and OIRT-FM for two weeks now. I am really beginning to miss the greek and spanish stations. Never thought this would happen-

At my location in the Midlands I'd say that the season so far has been a bit better than last year but still not great compared to the same time frame in past seasons.

You are all hoping that posting on Skywaves will kick-start the Es season :D

When it does kick off - stay alert for middle East DX - including Jordan TV on E3. The last three seasons have seen exotic DX logged in England near the end of May

I thought Jordan had gone off E3 as I didn't see it last year but if it is still on then that's good news.

I guess, Greece - Spain - Italy - have all gone digital without us having recognized. That is why we do not receive FM :D
