Well they've only committed to 2017 so I'm not sure common sense won. I suppose they'll try again and if people scream and stamp their feet they'll get another two years at a time.

Shame as I love RTE Radio 1. 252 is receivable here in East Anglia, weak, but audible. Around Sept 2015, it has been said that NPO Radio Vijf (Netherlands) will shut down its MW transmissions. NPO R5 can be received quite strongly in most of Norfolk (on 747, from Lopik), but 1251 Hulsberg (same site as Radio 538 on MW 891) gets knocked out mostly by Great Barton (on same frequency for Smooth), even though it must be audible in North Norfolk. Hopefully, the scatter (MS, TS or AS) will bring in Clermont Carn on 87.8. I do still need tropo or scatter for anything from Holland, even though NPO R5 will need strong tropo, as it will be DAB+ only after 747 and 1251 get shut down. For a few months, DLF on 756 will be audible nicely, until DLF become FM and digital only.

Has RTE in any way replied to the calls to move the LW frequency (at least temporarily) up to the disused 261kHz, as 252 is nowadays severely affected by Algeria at night in southern areas of Ireland, not to mind areas of Britain...

Even if its days are numbered, it would be worthwhile for the remaining time it is on air

Closedown now extended for another two years, and the tx antenna is to be upgraded to improve the signal in Ulster and London

Plus disturbing Algerian tx on co-channel has been reported to be off air recently.

That should give a nice clear signal without any interference all across N. Europe!

Clarkestown is back on (or someone is ;) )
It's a massive signal, no mod yet except a bit of Luxembourg, about 3dB below Droitwich 198 here
Tim says the qrg is spot on 252000, had been 2Hz low
Must be a new tx, I suspect it's one of those types that can do DC modulation and they are testing at 4 x normal power

Now carrying programme RTE1. Carrier level is the same, except it's gone up a bit after dark, so disregard my comment about variable carrier power

I had to check on the Carlow Ireland SDR >> http://emeraldsdr1.ddns.net:8073/ to see if RTE1 was back. Here in London it is non existent under the border blaster from Algeria. :?

Here is ALG versus IRL on 252kHz here tonight. (17.10.2019)
You can hear the noise in my QTH, which drives me outside for my MWDX.
