Analogue TV-DX logs from 1990/91

Post by daveB » 02 Jan 2019 21:42

I just found an old diary from the time I had a 4-bay Triax BB aerial, along with fixed loft mounted aerials for Band I and Band III.

Of particular interest to me is a note for 3rd Sept 1991:

"POLAND Ch 36. TELEWIZJA NOCA programma 2 as positive id".

Would anyone have a record of what transmitter site that would have been? I'd love to know the distance involved.

A few other entries of note from 1990:
Ch A80 AFN was logged a few times in 1990
22 Feb 1990 - DDR E31 at 10:30 am co-channel with NED 2
08 Mar 1990 - DDR E31
17 Mar 1990 - 'probably best tropo all year but too sick to even think about looking"
18 Mar 1990 - DNK TV2 E27
24 Mar 1990- SUI PTT-SSR1 E31 - test card briefly dominating at 08:40
25 Apr 1990 - DNK E22, E27

Band III was quite active - using a loft mounted home-brew 4 ele antenna pointed towards The Netherlands.

Those were the days.....

Wow 4x BB grids that was hardcore! I had 2 in my loft stacked facing ESE from 85 to 88 until I managed to persuade my parents to let me put one of them outside on a rotator... it was joined by a 6 element B3 a few months later. I had AFN Soesterburg A80 several times between 88 and 91, not all my tuners went up that high but my JVC managed it as did one of my D100s. There was also an AFN outlet in Belgium on CH34 that used to come in occasionally too I think it was at the SHAPE headquarters in Casteau. I had both AFNs on 13/7/90.

Can't help you with the name of your Polish CH36 TX, maybe ask Garry Smith?

Looking at your 1990 logs I had DDR on March 8th too but only on B3 chs E5 and E12.

I had some excellent Scandi trops on June 12th 1990 with;
SVT1 on E8 & 9
SVT2 on E23,30 & 33
DR1 on E5, 7, 8 & 10
DR2 on E26,30 & 35
NRK on E5 & 11

There was another excellent tropo on 22/10/90 with Sweden and Denmark on UHF, Norway, Denmark and Sweden on B3 and 2 unid sigs on R7 and R10 which I'm guessing were Poland.

Those were the days indeed!

Hi David according to my book CH 36 100kw Bydgoszcz is the only TX listed co-ordinates are 18E10 53N16 so you may have to convert co-ordinates.
I make that around 1200 km to your location.

Thanks for the info Andy - FMList puts it as exactly 1200 km. RMF FM on 93.3 comes from that site. That is the furthest tropo distance I've had on Analogue TV. The best FM tropo distance was also 1200 km - from Sweden (SR P4 Kisa) in October 2015 and in 2017 tropo from Poland (Lebork) on FM at 1173 km.
