Very poor Sporadic E this year for Western Europe...

Post by tomas112 » 18 Jun 2017 17:20

Hello all
Just comment the heavy conditions of propagation for the west, and south-west of Europe. I consult fmlist and I see that the British Islands, the Iberian peninsula and my Canary Islands seem to be outside the loggins on FM. The center of Europe is being "bombarded" by many Esporadic E and the Atlantic DX shine by their absence. Is there any explanation for this phenomenon? :o
Greetings to all and apologies for my english.

Tomas

Hello Tomas.

We've just moved into the DX zone. Well, about an hour ago. Poland, Ukraine and Belarus are providing BIG signals right across FM here.

If my Spanish was half as good as your English, I would consider myself fluent!

Our sporadic E season was VERY slow to start this year. It was as if somebody literally switched it on on May 30th. They still haven't switched it off! Unexpectedly, this become an EXCELLENT season!

Good DX!

John.

This absence of sporadic E will be related to this phenomenon?, see: https://www.sott.net/article/353920-The ... ent-clouds

I cannnot confirm it's a bad season.
actually, the beginning was indeed very late:

22nd May 2017 (compared to:
18th May 2009, 11th May 2010, 18th May 2012, 5th (!) May 2013, 15th May 2016).

based on my logs from GErmany.

BUT: (there are basically two "Buts" ) first:

I have experienced E-skip since May 30th until yesterday EVERY DAY without June 10th - maybe I did not notice or tuned in the wrong time the other day). and there are SO MANY logs I have stopped writing em down!!! already 200 on June 11th, nearly 300 yesterday, more than 400 on 14th and 15th June each..

BUT nr 2: the variety is so much bigger than the past years.
Not just simply Spain or Italy but I have heard about 25 countries already during only TWO WEEKS!!

including:

Iceland (87,7)
Bosnia (89.0 - low power)
Moldova (FM and OIRT)
Pridnestrowie (FM 88,8 and OIRT)
Serbia (RTS plus Radio Tri Beograd)
Vojvodina (Pannon Radio, AS FM Novi Sad)
Hungary (88,3 / 95,9 / 93,1)
Kosova (95,7)
Albania (4 times of which 3 already confirmed)
Montenegro (RCG 1)
Ukraine
Belarus (both also on CCIR FM not only OIRT)
even Poland which I never thought it would be possible (beneath 800 k)
Algeria
Tunesia
Morocco
Libya
certainly 1x Egypt (not confirmed)

only Malta and Gibraltar are stil missing ;)

cannot be dissatisfied

It seems the sporadic E returns to the normal routine....Yesterday, I think for the first time this season Paul Logan listened Canary Islands from Northern Ireland!!!! (see: http://www.fmlist.org/fm_logmap.php?dat ... 6&band=ALL).
Will be the beginning of "normality"?
Best regards

euuhhh....RNE Radio Clásica on 87.7 might have come from Baquèira, Catalunya as well. So there is no proof, as long as any local ID has been captured (impossible on public national, I know). All E stations mention the time for CNR too. Taking a look on the map, yes the direction seems to fit.

But " Piano music in with 88.4" without ANY ID is no log at all, it's a TENT at least :(

I would rather say it was them:

87.7 POR bej Serra do Mendro 7°47'01W/ 38°14'50N RDP Antena 1 ANTENA_1 8201 410 300 20 v N
88.4 POR evo Serra de Ossa 7°35'23W/ 38°44'22N RDP Antena 1 ANTENA_1 8201 642 2 c N

(Yes, they DO broadcast piano music and slow music as well)

so - no log just a tent for this mysterious 87.7 -- sorry! multi-tx frequencies might be identified in some cases, but mostly cannot.
I have seen openings from different directions within a Country.

in that case, 94.6 with RNE 1 would have been Alpicat as long as no local px (or local RDS) was caught. we dont know - so : TENT.

In fact, while the seasons getting better in UK; it got worse on the mainland. Nearly zero activity over Germany the last 5 days, compared to May 30 - June 16.
