*** FORUM UPDATE *** Sunday January 22nd 2017 at 1400

Post by John Faulkner, Skegness » 18 Jan 2017 17:39

At last, we are ready to try to forge ahead with the new forum update. Although this is a completely new release, as opposed to a simple update.

This will take place this coming Sunday 22nd January at 1400.

Expect Skywaves to be offline for anything between 15 minutes to one hour, depending on how smoothly this goes. You will see various error messages while the new software is being uploaded. This is normal and there is no need to adjust your receivers!

This forum has now been updated to the latest version of the phpBB software - version 3.2.

If anybody has any issues, please post either here or directly to myself.

Thank you.

Following the forum update, we found a few minor issues with the appearance of the forum and decided to perform a fresh installation from scratch.

What you see now is the forum in its natural appearance, i.e. minus the Skywaves logo and the other radio icons (post notifications) we used in the left margins. These may have rearranged some of the visual elements of the pages.

So, if you see anything unusual in the appearance of this forum, firstly, please flush the cache in your browser. This should solve any issues. If it doesn't, please let us know here. Also, please let us know if any other problems are experienced.

I may reinstate the Skywaves logo and other buttons at some point, but let's see how things go to begin with.

Thank you to Andy, Lynton and Julian for assistance.

CTRL-F5 as advised by JF fixes display issues in Chrome.

I re-uploaded the post notification icon directory yesterday evening to make sure all those old red radio icons were definitely gone. Chrome put them back again this morning. A CTRL+F5 did the trick once again. What is it with Chrome these days?

Private Message limits are now increased from 50 to 100 for the 'Registered Users' group. This is a fairly standard number for most forums these days.

In the event of your inbox being full:
New messages will be put on hold. You will need to delete a message in order to read the new one. I though this was preferable over the alternative method, which was to have automatic deletion of the oldest message in order to accommodate the new one.

I will reinstate the Skywaves logo soon.

Please remember to flush your browser cache and/or press CTRL+F5 in future if any visual anomalies occur.
