Good ears needed - UNID 87.7

Post by Nick Gilly » 06 Jun 2018 21:32

This is a bit of a long shot as it's a weak signal, but can anyone get anything out of this clip, recorded on the afternoon of June 3rd?:

Silly me had it in my notes as 'Antena 1?' but the language is not Portuguese. I thought it might be French but it isn't. It also sounds vaguely Dutch. The music after the ads before the signal becomes inaudible sounds Arabic or North African. Around 10 minutes previously Antena 3 had been in on the channel from the Azores, but then around the time of the recording other signals including Spain had started to return. So I'm assuming this signal came from the south or SW.

Any help gratefully received, as I'm a bit puzzled!

Thanks.
Good DX.

I do not have very good speakers on that PC and the signal is pretty low, but in the beginning, the pronounciation and the flow of language sounds like Català to me. This does not make sense at all, unless you caught two different signals fading in- and out. Indeed, from 1:33 or so it sounds very different.

I would like to bring in Radio Soleil Marseille, "la radio arabe maghrebine d' orient". They have ads, while Radio Chlef doesn`t.

To my ears it's clearly Arabic. Both the language and later music.

Thanks guys.

So far the language options suggested are French, Dutch, and Arabic. One French speaker said it definitely wasn't French. To me it still doesn't sound quite right for Arabic, which leads me to wonder if it was SNRT Al Idaâ Al Amazighia from Morocco. This network is in Tamazight, rather than Arabic.

It'll have to remain as an UNID I think.

I am sure it is NEITHER dutch NOR french. I speak both languages fluently on int. B2 degree level. However, the signal is indeed very weak. Tamazigh is a possibility, this is a collection of different berber languages and local dialects, that may vary extremely. Alger Chaine 2 is in the same group of languages, this might be a possibility to get an impression as this one is on satellite.

I'm pretty sure it is French spoken by native Arab(s). I've cleaned the audio up and can make out some individual words.

I still think it's from Morocco as that is a much better fit for the conditions at the time.
