87.6 Arabic - ID sounded like 'Suriye FM'

Post by Nick Gilly » 03 Jun 2018 14:39

Any ideas on this one? It was received during the Es late last night at the silly hour of 12.40 am local:

https://app.box.com/s/jnoe274gdc8xhcqqor0rx6b21u6h1uk9

It's the station with the YL presenter. It sounds like a mix of French and Arabic, and the ID appears at 3 min 04 sec during a peak in the signal. Does anyone recognise this?

Conditions at the time were towards the Balkans and Italy.

Thanks.
Good DX.

Nick, at your 3m04 I'm hearing "Chérie FM" as part of a sentence in Arabic. Why I'm hearing it is a different matter! I'm not aware that the brand owners NRJ Group use that name in, for example, Lebanon.

Other portions of the recording are throwing up Balkan languages, and other fragments which are too short to get a hook on.

Hi Brookman Spark (nice handle BTW). I wondered if it was Cherie FM as well but couldn't find any Arabic versions on 87.6.
Good DX.

I guess that is that new, mysterious "Radio iFM" from Tunis!? Think she says "Sur i FM"... (on i FM)
Not surprising, using a mix of Arabic and French words while switching the language within one sentence. Even more in ALG.

The only versions of Chérie FM I know:

- France (actually, since some re-launch the mainland version is called "Chérie" + city on local versions without FM in fact!)
- Martinique 98.3 FM + 101.6 FM
- Guadeloupe 104.3 FM
- Antilles 101.6 FM
- Guinée 104.1 FM
- Guyane 104.7 FM + 106.6 FM + 107.8 FM
- La Réunion 88.5 FM + 95.3 FM + 96.2 FM + 100.6 / 100.8 / 101.0 FM + 101.9 FM + 104.6 FM + 107.1 FM
- Senegal

Here are some facts about the operation of NRJ group in Lebanon:

none of them fits, while IFM has been logged several times in Germany today, even with RDS.

After having heard it twice, I think IFM Tunis is the clue and the says "...sur IFM".

Thanks PFM907. Yes I think you are right. I had this last week with RDS. The tx site is Nabeul/Cap Bon.

Yes, it's IFM.
The outlet broadcasting on 87.6 is located very probably in Kef-Errand.

I can confirm she does not say Cherie FM but Sur I-FM.

thanks for confirmation both of you , well...they've got private radio down there, finally. is that what the people were looking for? or maybe do they have some other (major) problems like infrastructure, construction works, traffic, terrorism, unemployment, poverty... ?? ;)

As a dxer (I started listening in 1982 -when i was 12 yo-) I think that we have to be impartial about what we listen in our hobby.

Everybody has his own political ideas (of course), his own opinions about religion or economy his own tastes about music, arts, sports.... but when we are searching for Dxs we don't have to care about the contents of the brodcasting we are listening to.

That's the reason why I think it's not us (the dxers) who can judge if private radios are useful for Tunisian pepole and their social and economic development.
