After DXing the medium waves for the last few weeks, I felt it was high time that I tried to throw myself back into band 2 and catch up with the remaining Es files I have from last summer.

Continuing with the amazing Middle East reception reception from July 23rd when Israel almost took over the band.

https://youtu.be/MQrK9GLMVoY

I *think* the man here is speaking Hebrew, but I am not 100% certain. Beer Sheva was received at this time so it's possible this could be Radio Darom. Is there any conclusive proof in this clip?

Thanks and good DX!

John.

It's certainly Hebrew, John. News over a music bed and at 18sec an advert for... Ankia? Al Qia? A Hebrew speaker would give you the content, ideally including that address containing "alef" at the end. But I don't hear any station name, sorry.

No problem Brookman. Thanks for listening. At least we know it's Hebrew, so no doubt Israel.

Hebrew again. It has the style of a sports report to it.

The music at the end which you might not be interested in, is interesting :) From the very brief amount heard it could be Portuguese fado, Spanish flamenco or Arabic, showing the common background of those three genres. I would guess your SpE opening on that day makes Arabic the most likely.

Thanks again Brookman.

Coming back to the recordings I checked last year, and the remaining files from that day, of which there are no less than 29, reveals more interesting reception. There were far more Middle East stations coming through than I had realised.

Here's KAN Kol HaMusica from Jerusalem on 91.3, getting battered by an Arabic station.

95.9 Radio Faza? Could be Balkan. Maybe Arabic?

I I *think* this is Arabic, but not a lot to go on here, apart from mentions of Islam. The only likely on-path possibility would appear to be Galgalatz, who broadcast in Hebrew. A mystery.

Another new one: 90.8 KAN Reshet, Menara 0903 23-07-17. Is this really only 2 kW?

They just keep coming.

Unidentified 93.3. Israel or Palestine? Sounds like a commercial.

That's two hours I've just spent on one file. Need to do some other stuff now. Hopefully time to tackle another one later.

The best of it is, I already checked these files last year. Amazing how a re-check throws up so much new stuff.

Second opinions welcome, but I'm sure I hear "Angham" mentioned twice in an ID at beginning of the clip. The first "Angham" is not clear. (Listen to the second "Angham" in the echo.) The language sounds like Hebrew.

As I say, any comments welcome, but this is on-path, in-area and Hebron was coming in elsewhere.

Extended sporadic E reception in Skegness.

John, small note, you may hear Israel broadcast in Arabic for Arabs west of the green line who stayed after 1948, but you will NEVER hear a Palestinian station broadcast in Hebrew unless its a low power relay of the Israeli nationals for a settlement on the west bank like 91.3 which is technically on Palestinian territory

your 2 clips of 93.3 are almost certainly Radio Lev HaMedina 91 from Rosh HaAyin

Thanks Tim.

I have logged a few Palestinian relays of Israeli nationals, so they are in Hebrew, but I was unaware of the other stations strictly not broadcasting in Hebrew. Thanks for this. That file is now deleted so I cannot re-record that video.

Yes, the digital noise - ongoing problems with my sound card settings. Nothing is ever straight-forward with that.
