UNID Spain on 87.5 via tropo

Post by Nick Gilly »

Hi all.

Can anyone ID this station please, logged during the recent tropo? I had logged Radio 4G on this channel during the lift, but they were playing music on each occasion. It could be them again, although this was all talk:

Clip 1: https://app.box.com/s/egv8u3wa7t6ctj24raetqckizp82z1i3

Clip 2: https://app.box.com/s/6ibxk4j91403x90sk446jhycvueckgfz

The tropo at the time was quite extensive from along the north coast of Spain, as far as the A Coruña area.

Thanks.
Good DX.

I have listened to both recordings & I cannot hear an ID. The first recording is talking about presumed light by electricity in ancient Egypt & people who are able to contact other dimensions. The second recording is about religion & science. I am not familiar with Radio 4G so I don't know if it is one of their programmes. I also tried checking the podcasts of other major stations in Spain like RNE, COPE, SER, with programmes that were on at that time & they did not match unless I was not looking properly.

Thanks for that. There are some talk programmes listed on Radio 4G's website that look like a match for that sort of content, so I'll presume it was them.

It's likely to be 4G. They had as many as 5.000 listeners back in the 2nd EGM tracking period, now 28.000 - they've been undergoing sort of a crisis, lots of music is being played lately.
Probably scanning the band atm. And definitely complaining about the conditions.

Thanks guys. I've logged it as a presumed Radio 4G.

Thanks for moving the topic too John. I hadn't realised it had gone on the MW Unids!

Hi Jorge. The two clips were recorded on December 30th 2019, the first one at 0044 UTC and the second at 0142 UTC.

I'm pretty sure it was Radio 4G as I recorded some other reception on 87.5 with a confirmed ID:

Hi Nick,
Yes, this is indeed 4G as you already ID'ed. They run a program with humanism content all night long. The name of the program was 'Luces en la Oscuridad'.

The 87,5 MHz fx was used by Radio Meruelo last year (a municipality radio station) that leased the frequency to the private network 4G which now from there. Its transmitter is close, at about 38 km from my QTH.

Congrats!

Thanks for the confirmation Jorge.

That tropo at the end of 2019 was the first time I have logged this station, as well as Radio Super Amara at the other end of the band on 108.0 MHz.
