Czech Republic logged 29 Sept 2016!

Post by daveB » 30 Sep 2016 15:00

As I'd logged Ochenskopf with pi code at 0100 UTC I had hoped to find Radio Impuls on 91.4 - but Bayern 1 was occupying the frequency. However when I checked the recording at 0300 UTC - there it was!! I had to a narrow bandwidth with an assymetric filter setting to remove interference from BBC R4 on 91.3

ADD: going back over the wav files reception lasted from 0245 - 0301 UTC before being replaced by a German station. Best reception was 0245 to 0258 UTC the station id being given a number of times.

That makes up for not managing even a single Spanish station on the 27th/28th

Well done Dave.

Weird how the propagation paths work sometimes. No indication of anything Czech here at the same time.

I missed the afternoon/evening of the 28th so I haven't a clue if I missed anything. Seeing other people's logs I suspect I probably did.

I heard a French station with OM talk on 90.4 around 2300 on the 28th as I was passing Doncaster Services at the M62/M18 junction. I don't know who it was. That was the only indication of anything "DX" at that time.

Yes - at that time there was a narrow tongue of enhancement across S-W Germany according to F5LEN - just within reach of the SE of England. The other big contributing factor was that the evil "solar/street" lighting was not present - that would have killed it dead. Incidentally this interference has plagued me from late spring and I have come to the conclusion it is someone's solar lighting as it appears at sunset but now disappears in the later evening. So it seems to me the batteries aren't getting charged very much so the lights go out after a while and the qrn disappears.

Very nice David. I did try a few times for Impuls on 91.4 yesterday morning after seeing it had been logged in the Netherlands but no luck.
Good DX.

Update: I recorded until 0808 UTC before running short of disk space - and conditions appeared to have died back. But the recording at 0800 UTC had Ochsenkopf on 96.0 again - so back to 91.4 and a weak "Radio Impuls" was found. It gets better! working back through the wav files it was strong enough - despite BBC R3 from Wrotham at 50 dB on 91.3 MHz - to give the PI code (2203) for a very short time - and from at least 0700 UTC to 0800 UTC the signal was there - often at fairly good strength.

I've attached a screenshot -

- it is just clear enough on the attachment to read the time stamp.
