Tropo Portugal, Spain, France 1.2.16

Post by Nick Gilly » 02 Feb 2016 19:41

So yet another fine tropospheric opening. I got up at 6 am (about half an hour earlier than usual) as I suspected conditions would be good, and was greeted by a strong signal from France Inter on 87.9 from Pic du Midi. Going up the band I also had classical music on 91.2 (which turned out to be RNE Radio Clásica from Parada de Sil) and different classical music on 94.6 peaking SW. I looked in the 2014 WRTH and, sure enough, Antena 2 is listed on this channel from Muro in Portugal. I started recording then and it took a while to confirm as I needed to hear speech. It became very weak and disappeared for a while but started coming back up in strength towards 0700. By the time I was getting ready to leave at 7.40 it was back up to fully quieting, briefly reaching a bar. This is my first ever reception of Portugal here via tropo.

There were a few Spanish signals on the band too:

90.1 unid - can anyone get anything from this recording? (fighting with BBC R2): https://app.box.com/s/uffzd2wuv5m3w809szp5vcfos30mjybu
91.2 RNE Radio Clásica Parada de Sil 1096 km
92.2 RNE Radio Clásica Quirós 958 km
94.4 RNE Radio 3 Quirós 958 km
104.8 probably Radio Galega Parada de Sil - can anyone confirm?: https://app.box.com/s/sgbhk8orf7zttjpfnlafie4mkbb2eaeh

The duct was quite wide as SW and central France were also coming in.

To finish, here's 3 recordings of Antena 2 on 94.6 from Muro, at 1170 km:

Thanks Andy. Yes a very nice little opening. Let's hope we don't have to wait too long until the next one.
Good DX.
