Omg I'm dxing mw from home again!

Post by Tim Bucknall » 10 Oct 2017 07:22

1400 sounds like BBC world service px, so presumably cbc 0620ut no idea, I'm out of touch, don't even buy wrth anymore

Carriers noted every 10khz from 1250-1700

Large negative offset on 1480

Last proper Dx from home was December 2008 Alaska/Hawaii but with all joy sucked out of it by the noise

No chance of that now with random wire in loft but it's worth sacrificing the once in a lifetime stuff the loop picked up at ground level in order to get the noise down and allow regular dxing

Audio on 1280 sounds Caribbean?

Noticeable positive offset on 1270

Welcome back to Gods own band, Tim.

I took a long break and came back a few years ago. Horrified by the noise. It is still very frustrating, but fun.

Did you record ? If so, your 1280 may be CFMB - seconds after 0600 there is a good "Ici CFMB, douze quatre-vingt Radio Montreal" ID. The talk (or rant !) after sounded very African or Caribbean.

1200 for me was CFGO (or TSN as they sometimes ID)
The 1270 offset was CJCB earlier in the evening here.

So it looks as if you are set fair for Canada.

You'd probably do very well with a flag Tim. Just looking on Google at your garden, I see it runs north/south. A good option for both TA and FE with the flag's wide beamwidth. The wide null would surely reduce Spain or get rid in most cases. Just locate it as far away from your house as possible. You could angle it corner to corner as required.

Ideally, it needs to be 10 feet by 25 feet, but smaller would still work.

Helo Simon. CFMB runs Creole overnight with both talk and tropical music.

Good stuff Tim! Nice to see you DXing MW again. At first glance, conditions seemed at least very reasonable overnight. Maybe even good! Will be having a tune around the files myself in a few minutes.
