June 11th 2017 retraction

Post by Tim Bucknall » 22 Feb 2018 13:33

I'm deleting my 1755/6 logging of laikos fm 87.6

i think the combination of a Reggaeton beat mixing with a presumed Tunisian confused me.

at the time the beat did indeed seem to match Laikos FM www, but i've gone back to the recording, after i had tuned away during live listening a spanish dj fades up and says "Reggaeton!"

heres a typical example of the reggaeton beat
https://youtu.be/lYA2Uqyk41E?t=40s

this drum pattern is also widely used in Greece, The Middle East & the Balkans

i see i logged laikos again an hour later, i expect this will probably be a mistake too

when Truck Drivers from the Balkans use a nearby road junction i hear this beat in the music on their I-trips on 87.5
-park at tesco metro Congleton and find a blank channel - you can't guess what you'll hear next!

Worth checking Tim. I remember this opening; it was a massive one to the Balkans and Greece with Thessaloniki right up the band to 108.0! The latter was a pirate.
Good DX.

Hi Tim,

I'd be inclined to suggest you re-instate your entry - with a "tentative" note. My log from 11th June 2017 shows I got this station from 1758 to 1917 with full RDS (not all the time). I had extensively recorded the opening. During that time period I logged a huge number of stations from Greece - close on twenty from the Thessalonki area!

Tentative, certainly. But I can't imagine Laikos FM playing reggaeton. Our Greek members would know.

Laikos FM's stream is here@ http://live24.gr/radio/laikos

i still have a log of laikos at 1856 that i haven't listened back to since last year, that looks more promising because i also logged 90.6 tentatively at the same time.
i'll upload the 1755 file if i can find it again , spain is mixing with presumed tunisia and both are weak
the Spanish station seemed to be a syndicated (Reggaeton) show from Miami

thanks all for your suggestions

Yay! So you did get Laikos Tim. Is that rare for you?

Yes absolutely. Greece is at the absolute limits of single hop Here- I bet the peak district doesn't help, though wierdly turkey 88.0 was common at the turn of the century (channel now blocked)

Usually I get a weak mess at the bottom of the band while you're logging Greece, then bari fades in and I know I missed the good stuff.

This time the band was total soup, Spain, Italy, Algeria, Croatia, Tunisia...
