Comm Radio CR-1, Pira P175

CR-1 coped well with the fm transmitters on GT Ormes head, it seems to suffer much more from pulsed modulation, utility tx's like pagers, tetra etc

reception virtually stopped at the Scottish border which was not surprising given position of jet stream
95.9 was the only Scottish signal tentatively id'ed

Very nice Tim.

I presume you drove around the summit, using rocky outcrops as shielding??

the traffic was insane towards Gt Orme, and there was a diversion that really messed us up.
busiest I've ever seen so we stuck to the far eastern end of seafront (extremely weak long distance stuff, no de-sensing) and then for the first time , we tried the Premier Inn on the hilltop (lots of very strong mid distance stuff at rds level, like Newstalk 103.3 but some bursts of desensing on the sdr) next time we'll try the food!

the new lifeboat station which is under construction pushed us out eastwards from our normal spot, so maybe that caused the lack of overloading on the sea front this time

we just wanted to chill by the beach, I threw in the aerials on the off chance not really expecting anything as i'd mentally written off Llandudno

That's good to read Tim. I suppose the critical thing is how good is a car radio at dealing with strong signals? I found some good spots up there where the transmitters were shielded. Some were on bends in the road I would never have dared to park the car, but there were good spots elsewhere. Glad this shows there is still DX potential around the periphery of this great hilltop.

yes luckily our seemingly humble car radio is pretty resistant

the stuff up around the great orme is a bit too much like home for me, (emley moor, vicars lot, Keighley etc) so i'm not too gutted about not making it up there, south stack is very similar

if condx to the north were better maybe it would have been worth going up there for Scotland and Cumbria
but conditions to the north were so crap 104.1 Cumbria wasn't there

clyde is blocked now by Ynys Mon, on paper 200 watts doesn't sound much but it completely owns the channel across north wales

Nice log Tim never been there yet maybe one day I will visit there lol.

Regarding 106.9 Heart, Moel-Y-Parc C3AA 107.3 Heart, Gwaenysgor C3AA/C5AA these are still showing C6A3 on FMlist so would be worth informing the editors about the change in PI.
