shame to lose 102.5 as a dx channel in North Wales, bye bye to Spain, Clyde 1, CFM, Pulse
it also badly splatters 102.6 so no france this year

for offsets and tx signatures see the "lleyn peninsular west" bandscan on fmlist
most irish stuff was off freq or had an interesting signatures
107.4 & 107.6 each had 2 unstable and 1 stable tx

i decided to exclude BBC R1,2,3 & Classic FM from the bandscan

special thankyou to the staff at Edern Garage for fixing my icom

This is a thorough bandscan/DX session. I have been so looking forward to reading your loggings here.

I am guessing conditions are more or less flat, but there are some rare and exotic sounding transmitters in your log. Nice work!

Thanks John, :-)
I tried to text you on the evening of the 10th to report a big lift inland- the opposite direction to what I wanted!
but mobile coverage is spotty as you know
at the peak of the lift I had unid tlk on 100.2 and a couple of other unids, condx totally broke down on the 11th, then it was as flat as a pancake.

I would have to say it wasn't a "classic" Aberdaron session like some we've known but it was fun using the hills to block certain directions and favour others - all good practise!

Nefyn remains a good Scotland spot , I'm prob most pleased with Craigkelly, Rothesay etc
Swingate & Crystal Palace was surprising - I was actually trying for Clyro when I heard weak R3 on 92.4
I was hoping for scilly islands on 93.2 but the offset confirmed it was crystal palace

the south west was very suppressed this year, Haverford west was poor, even Blaenplwyf wasn't as powerful as normal, no pirate/lantern (or whatever they're called now), no sign of the Cork Pirate

after condx died I tried to see how many Welsh LP's I could log (i'd love to nail them all)
but LLandyfriog stubbornly remains un dx-able for reasons I don't really understand, on the map it looks like an easy path

some potentially usefull info: MonFM 102.5 is all beatles & beatles related music on sunday morning- should be very distinctive in a pile up
I don't know where the site is , but it totally dominates the freq west of the Clwyddian mountain range all the way to Aberdaron and in the south its only limited by Radio Pembrokeshire, not bad for 200 watts
I actually wonder if its coming off Llandonna

oh I have to mention the late night phone-ins on Irish radio OH.......MY....GOD!
(104.4, 94.9, 98.1- 104.4 was most jaw dropping)
:o :o :o

I can't decide whether its a wonderful example of truly free speech or totally irresponsible!
it wouldn't be allowed here, it would probably cause a race war!

part of the fun of Aberdaron for me is getting totally immersed in Irish radio, Irish current affairs etc and enjoying the programming, especially at night lying in bed laughing my head off at Niall Boylan insulting some nutter on 94.9 or getting into R Na Gaels freaky late night Peel-type show

Boylans debate on Friday was : Ireland is in such a mess should it rejoin the UK, all these "armchair republicans"- as he called them were sending in death threats and he read them out "you will be leaving the studio in a coffin tonight, you can have the union jack draped over it if you like!"

That is a very nice log Tim :-) No French enhancements at all while you were there though?
Good DX.

nope, didn't manage to break out of the British Isles at all, unless thats was what 102.3 & 100.2 was :(

the former best French channel (102.6) is now severely splattered

Re: Aberdaron 2015

i guess having a "baseline" of whats received in flat condx is somewhat useful
i can consider all these stations "permanent" and ignore them next year if i go back

re: 103.4 it seemed //Heart but i'm aware that doesn't make sense, i looked at the ownership of CFM to see if it was global in which case they may take some heart px but CFM is a Bauer station so that's out.

i really doubt its heart thames valley, this was at the guest house on the north facing coast at tudweiliog and there were absolutely no indications of Southern England

96.9 at the same time may have been the bay
100.2 could* be the new CR at Portadown but that's only 25watts and i thought there was too much speech for a CR stn in the evening

Aberdaron has changed a lot, they have a new visitors centre in the big car park at the bottom of the hill, and the bakers now have a huge tall clay coloured building which the locals hate for aesthetic reasons

the old clifftop B&B with the great reception is still unsold, the former landlady has alzheimers still wants to downsize but Welsh government laws mean they need to find a local buyer and couldn't take the existing offers from English buyers
you can park on the cliff top next to the ex B&B and experience the Southern England reception- that was where i got Swingate and Crystal P

no caradon hill 102.2 this year the channel was owned by dublin - the south was noticeably suppressed this year.
Haverfordwest was rubbish

102.3 was at the Aberdaron cliff top, maybe either NRJ or Heart from nine barrow down
