This sounds really interesting Tim. What bands were recorded?

Medium wave, in North America
Its a pity the project to create an SDR archive has come to nothing, this would have been an amazing addition
The Humble Video recorder was one of the greatest inventions ever, I wish we still had one

I offered him some recordings of pirates in exchange for letting us access the goodies. I'm hoping my polish pirate recording is still available somewhere or someone saved it, I think he would dig that you could even hear them blowing out the amplifier stage of the tx

I missed that. When was it recorded?Tim Bucknall wrote: ↑19 Aug 2018 10:33I offered him some recordings of pirates in exchange for letting us access the goodies. Very local to me, there was somebody trying to run two transmitters next to each other, both playing Bulgarian music from BG Radio. It seems they were playing recordings of the BG Radio streams, as there was some repetition and the music didn't match any BG Radio stream I could find. The rigs were pretty awful, so one on it's own was bad enough, but then they switched the second one on and all hell broke loose:

I haven't heard it for nearly a year now. I know roughly the street it was in, but it was hard to tell which house as there was just one dipole on one of the houses and the db meter wasn't peaking near that one.

Re: the 1985 spectrum recordings transferred from Video tape
Last year, I think during may it was during Ramadan for sure
87.7 was a weak soup of Ramadan stations and then this stonking signal from Crewe just flattened them
No ID as such unless you count nasze mix (our mix) as one. It seemed to exist entirely to promote Ladies night/ noc kobieta at a nightclub in Crewe. Signal quality was great until the amplifier stage blew out after a couple of hours.
Never heard again sadly.
There used to be a guy in Meir Staffordshire who ran multiple relay channels channels 24/7 presumably with good filtering!
97.5 radio Caroline, 93.9/94.0 the voice of peace and 90.2
No idea if he's still going, 97.5 is now blocked by Radio nova and 94.0 by Cannock chase radio.
If I did multiple streams I'd probably put the other on medium wave.
No sign of the Romanian pirate this week, guess it was a one off
Not to diss merseyland alternative radio but the programming is meant for older folks who remember the 60's pirates. Playing Rolf Harris in 2018 FFS!
The other activity here is just people playing old offshore tapes.
The best we ever had round here for a sustained period was when unique FM in Birmingham were high power on 87.5 with drum and bass and dub step.
Sadly a rival stole the tx.

Re: the 1985 spectrum recordings transferred from Video tape
"Hi, Tim,
Thank you for for your email.
At this point, we're uploading all of the Radio Spectrum Archive files to Archive.org. Our files are typically rather large--some collections are in excess of 200 GB (some much more). There are smaller spectrum files which may be less than 10 GB in size.
At the moment, we are exploring alternate spaces to store files online--or a space for large file transfers. If you felt you had some way to help here, please let me know.
Thanks again for your interest!
Best,
Thomas"

Re: the 1985 spectrum recordings transferred from Video tape
When I've got the time to download a file (they seem to come down very slowly), I'll try one out. They have .ddc extensions, but hopefully they will play if I change the extension to .wav and give it a valid filename so that SDR Sharp sets the frequency correctly.

Hi,
As far as I remember, I took those 'Video-Tape-Recordings' into my collection; they were announced at some forum. If there is still the need for them, please drop me a line, and I will start searching my hard disks
