Bon app pour le futur andouillette et frites! Chablis - pas mal comme pinard eh?!!

NA MF season extends into April so pas de souci.

The XHData D-808 (again eBay) is a very good portable receiver.

Bien a toi

Yes, like some cheese, smells bad, but tastes délicieux! :)

A good portable MW receiver. Hmm. Not sure about that. Anybody?

After a google search I found this for a good MW receiver and could be interesting but the only problem is understanding what the test results are saying?

The D-808 is indeed a fine little radio (I own one), but I'm surprised one can consider it as an "ideal MW DX equipment".
A SDR would offer much more.
Just my 2 cents

I would have recommended the Degen DE1103. That is the best portable I have personally used. However, as has been documented many times before, when you buy the DE1103 you have to buy from the Anand supplier on Ebay. Then you need to specify which batch you want as it was the earlier production models which performed better.

The old Grundig Satellite receivers were, apparently, very good, though I never owned one.

Portable or otherwise, the DE1103 is a mean little receiver.

I thought i have order a balun for a 2m x 1m flag antenna suggested by Stuart but i receive a reply from kafa2500 which i dont not fully understand but i think it says the balun is possibly not suitable for the flag?

What do you guys think?

email from kafa2500:

Hi, Pascal .
I am out of office - vacation in Cabo.
Let me be in touch with you when I will be back home.
Please send me the reminder in a week , OK?

Generally speaking - I never tried 2x1m flag and absolutely dont know what may be the loop impedance with such parameters(dimensions) Not sure if our baluns will help to much ...

You probably need to do some research and find if anybody in the DX community use such small antenna for DX-ing .
I think it must be rotatable ...
Anyways - this small antenna will have VERY LOW efficiency on LW . VERY .

So, we DON't but can help with building one if you give me the parameters ( Impedance of the balun secondary and the termination resistor value)
Alex

He mention LW which i am not intrested in but MWDX so how do i explain to Alex what i want for a MWDX antenna setup

Good Luck and happy DX-ing!!

His Flag balun is the one you need. Davey H should speak of his experiences using a small indoor flag.

There are no absolute rules here - each environment is different.

Merci Stuart,
Maintenant, je dois trouver un bon récepteur MW et je regarde sérieusement l'Icom R1000 qui a d'excellentes critiques pour MWDX
Now i must find a good MW receiver and i'm seriously looking at the Icom R1000 which has great reviews for MWDX

Good Luck and happy DX-ing!!

The best receiver for MF is the Perseus SDR hardware with Jaguar Pro software. An unbeatable combination.

Patrick73: A Desktop which is possible for use in the Ile de France & Bretagne also Antilles Françaises during the months march - april

Stuart: The Perseus i was intrested but reading the forums i understand the updates for this receiver are not owner friendly and possible for the price may be find a hot MW desktop least expensive?

Eventually i can find with your quality a good MWDX set up but just have need for time but MWDX has no time be for it is late.

Good Luck fellow dxers and happy DX-ing!!

Apart from Perseus, I would mention :

SDR : Airspy HF+ (abt 200€) ELAD S2 (abt 500€)
Analog RX : AOR7030, Icom R75, JRC 525 (second hand units)

but the filtering + recording features a SDR provides are a real advantage for serious DXing

Patrick, John also happy dxers thank you for your suggestions to a good MW DX setup and i opted/ ordered from Espagne the airspy HF+ which i wait for arrival and will be a portable setup with 40m long wire until a small flag antenne is achieved. Sunday last i was offered a Kenwood R1000 receiver from a local amateur radio enthusiast friend but it need work doing for a few composant replacement and resolder connections because he tell me the receiver is 37 years in his radio shack but attracting dust for many years.

Do you know if the R1000 is a good receiver for MWDX because my friend only use for SW and he say it was poor for MW but because it is free i accept and now wait delivery for the airspy HF+.

Good DX fellow dxers

Hi Pascal,

I never owned a Kenwood R1000, so I can't comment on this one.
You won't be disappointed with the HF+ ; I've been using one for about 9 months and it's a DX machine ;-) Very sensitive from LF to VHF, great dynamic range, compact, well designed. Thanks to an amazing set of filtering options (running SDR# plugins or SDR Console v3), no doubt it will beat the R1000 on MW. Its only downside is the limited bandwidth (660 kHz) but you can't have it all !

I suppose your unit benefits from the so-called "R3 bypass mod'", that provides enhanced LW/MW performance compared to the very first batches (feel free to ask your spanish retailer).

I ordered mine from Itead (Asia) because of their attractive price (less than 180 euros, including shipping).
