Somebody has got to do it!

One proviso - it has to be in the shade.

So to start off: Sittingbourne 13:20 - 32.9 C (91.2F).

This is nowhere near the UK record of 38.5 C set on 10 Aug 2003 at Brogdale, Faversham around 8 miles away. If memory serves me correctly it was just over 38 C 'chez nous' that day and I'd rather not see a new record thank you!

I'm not in the UK, but 33°C seems rather cool to me. It was 44°C here today, last week over 50°C.

Over 50°C - Bloody hell! Well pretty near it, that's over 122°F.

We had 30.9°C = 87.6°F in Central London today at 14:00 with 40% humidity.

I don't have a problem with the heat, it's the humidity that I don't like as it makes my body ache all over - I guess that's what you get for being a 70 year old git.

It was 29C here at 2.30 pm yesterday according to the car thermometer. It may have gone a little higher.

In the Cabardes badlands of southern Occitania we are expecting a high of 35C at 17.00 this afternoon.

Stay frosty out there :-)

The humidity is the killer int he UK. Plus the fact that we don't have extremes of weather and so never have time to get used to any heat.

A couple of years ago.an Australian exchange student told me that you could run with your dog in the parks in Sydney when it was 40C. No problem. She was shocked by the extreme levels of humidity we had here and I remember her saying that our 30C felt hotter than their 40C as a result. Screw this weather. I am so much looking forward to winter, apart from longer nights.

I would give you the current local weather but the local weather station website has gone down. Agencies tend to use the Wainfleet weather station, which never has quite the same temperatures as Skegness. Being stuck out at sea slightly and protected by the eastern Wolds, our temperatures rarely agree with the national weather forecast. The only thing they sometimes say is "cooler at the coast". Trust me, it's sometimes the opposite of that. Weather forecasting in the UK is totally shit.

It's been hot here in the past few days Sun/Mon even though it was cloudy and I was doing some aerial jobs on the roof but still got a sweat on I had been waiting for a cloudy day to do the work I have been waiting for months to get up there.
Talking of sweating I worked in a glass bottle factory for 16 years and it was hotter than the weather we are having now and looking across the shop floor every thing moves with the heat haze no one liked humid weather and neither did the bottles

Anyway as I have got older I feel the heat BUT I will put up with it the mention of Winter sends shivers down my spine so no that can wait as I just don't function in the cold that maybe the result of working in extreme heat for many years.

We had a respite from the heat today as it was cloudy and drizzling this morning and cool now sun has come out temps rising now tomorrow and Thursday is going to be hot here.
We should have fresher weather at weekend before it hots up again next week.

The official advice of keeping curtains and windows closed during the day seems to have made things worse here. My flat is slightly warmer now than it was this time yesterday, with a similar outdoor temperature and more cloud. I'd rather have a hot breeze coming in than no breeze at all!

I noticed the same thing Catherine. It's a plot to try to finish us off.

The local weather station has come back online and Skegness had a high of 31.5 at 15:32. The "felt like" temperature was 32.8. I now have to go out and walk about a mile or so. Such is life. Mind you, I could have sworn it was cooler today. Maybe my body is getting used to it.

I'm in Clacton and we've been lucky enoughto have a little breeze on most days. Even so, it touched 30C yesterday which was not comfortable.

We've recently returned from 35 years in Africa where summer heat can be on the warm side but mostly living at altitude in Johannesburg there was generally low humidity even though the mercury often hit 35C+. The biggest issue was trying to lose the residual heat at night and the best part was that everyone has a pool! Very nice to step out of your bedroom at 02h00 when you can't sleep for the heat and dive into the pool. Almost as good as that first mouthful of a nice cold beer on a hot afternoon.

Many moons ago (78 and 79) I was doing geophysical exploration in Australia - working outdoors. One contract in Singleton NSW was memorable in that the temperature hit 46C every afternoon for a whole week. I don't think I could handle that now, but at the time we just had to grin and bear it. Working in the bush there was no aircon and I seem to remember that we did indeed "bare" it. Frequently!

Close the curtains and open the windows slightly is the best advice.

I suppose it all depends on whether it's the bright sunshine which is heating the room. If it's just humid air, then closing the curtains and leaving the windows open won't make any difference.

Ouch, the forecast for Norwich on Friday is now 36 degrees! Must be a record for East Anglia. But only 23 degrees on Saturday, thank goodness, with thundery rain overnight!

The BBC have put that 36C sticker very close to Skegness. Will be interesting to see who gets that and if it actually happens. 36C is going to be a difficult temperature to deal with with the expected high levels of humidity.

agreed, closing curtains made it worse here too,

if it wasn't for a nasty polluting factory i'd have the windows open 24/7

its the wrong heat for dx, i'm hoping we get a return to the heat we had in late june

It's currently 22.5 in Skegness (09:45), according to skegnessweather.info and it's quite humid.

They changed the forecast yet again so that we now have an expected high of 37C today, instead of 32 as predicted yesterday. The forecasts on the BBC say one thing, one minute, then another, the next. I have given up with weather forecasting here and I admit that I only watch them to see how bad they usually are. Yet another thing we do very badly in this country.

Continuing my moaning about the met orifice, their Skegness page says we are only expecting a high of 23C today. Seems very strange when yesterday evening's forecast for here predicted 32C.

Tossers!

I just checked and the BBC forecast high is 27C for Skeggers.

Here it is 34 in the shade on its way to 37/38 I would estimate - forecast high is 36. Curtains are closed of course and door ad-jar.
