And yet a new branch opened in my town recently. I don't know about anyone else but Maplins shops are totally uninspiring. They don't seem to have any strong points but appear to 'dabble' in all sorts of bits and pieces.
They were good many years ago when they provided kits for enthusiasts. I built the TU10 RTTY back in the early '80s modem and it was brilliant.
SDRPlay, AirSpyMini, RTL dongles, SB920s, Yamaha TX930. 5 ele compact yagi on rotator at 18ft agl. FM5 facing east, FM5 facing south, FM3 facing NE, OIRT dipole, 3-ele Moxon vertical facing east.

Exactly right, Dave.

The only things I have bought from them in recent years have been home surveillance systems and a motherboard for my desktop PC. The latter was a bit of a farce, but that was head office as opposed to the Boston store, which I visit only occasionally.

Their prices can be extortionate!

Full marks to the staff at Boston and Grimsby as they really seem to know what they are talking about. This is contrary to what I have been reading on the RSGB Facebook page about Maplin, where they complain of staff who don't know what they are doing. I must have been lucky.

Full marks to them for at least stocking some things which are slightly specialist in the fields of electronics.

I was in Maplins today for a start capacitor for a heating pump as no one round here sells them but the only time in years I have purchased something from them but they saved the day also they are expensive as John said so I buy from CPC which are much cheaper.
