I sometimes consider Ebay to be the destroyer of the value of everything. Or I suppose that it could be argued that Ebay has brought prices down to something more realistic.

Stamps are great little nuggets of history. It's like looking through a good family photo album.

At some point I will have a look for those stamps Paul. I don't remember those which came in packets of crisps. Were they sealed? I'll bet they were greasy if not.

I couldn't agree more about football cards being more interesting than the sport itself. Many would disagree.

Seems like the tail end has fallen out of prices.
About 18 months ago we disposed of a collection of cigarette cards from my in-laws. Most dated from the 1930's to 1950's. We went to a valuation day and got £25 for the lot. We weren't expecting much as they weren't in the sort of condition collectors go for, but the valuer said that the bottom had fallen out of the market. 20 years ago or more cig cards were the main part of their business but now was only a very small part. There was a collectors 'bible' published annually - but they have gone out of business.

BTW - . Pitcairn Islands is one of the countries I don't have in my collection - but I see they aren't madly expensive on e-bay.

Slightly OT: When I was 18, I bought some mint bank notes from around the world. I wasn't a collector and merely wanted to frame a few unusual bank notes and hang on my wall at the time as something a bit different from the average 'pretty picture' wall hanging. They looked great. When I checked on Ebay about a year ago, I discovered that one of these notes, a fairly rare Japanese government Indian Rupee note, was selling for £100. When I checked recently, it's now selling for as little as 99p.

Hey John, those football cards came sealed in a little plastic packet inside packs of crisps which as far as I can remember in 1978 cost 5p. Cant remember what the crisps were called.
