Still coming in.

I was enjoying some east German tropo until Italy spoilt it.

Currently the band is swamped with Spanish stations. Earlier this morning I wasn't getting any tropo DX on Band II - I don't include strong local Belgians and French as DX - just one very weak Danish signal on 97.2. But going back over scanned stations - around 0930 local time p codes from Denmark and the more distant parts of Germany suddenly appears - this at the beginning of the SpE.

So another mixed day of conditions.

Spain & Algeria very strong now. There was also 88.2 Chaine 2 Algeria which FM List has @ 2.5kW power which is a first for me apart from all the usual stronger relays that are received that are 70kW on average.

Interesting while listening to Italy on 87.6 today the 1pm (2pm in Italy) the time signal had an echo on it. Is that because the signal arriving by 2 paths? Or was it another station underneath?

Good question. If arriving by two paths then the distance difference would be too short to produce an echo, so more than likely either a studio effect/error or two stations. Would need to hear a recording to be certain.

There were lots of stations in that opening. But even with +60dB signals, nothing much RDSd.

Caen 99.6 fluttered up during the e skip but after the e skip went I couldn't find any evidence of tropo.

I noticed some substantial offsets during the Italian opening like r Maria on 105.09 and Rai grpr 106.69
In the end it degenerated into an Algerian snore fest

It turns out the "Danish" pi codes were Slovakia! The German stations were from Brocken and Torfhaus over a 2 hour period from 0630-0830 UTC - a nicely focussed tropo duct.

They would be Slovenian Dave. I had several this morning at the start of the Es, along with Austria and Croatia.
Good DX.

Just for the record, these Italian signals were the strongest I have EVER heard from any sporadic E opening I have experienced.
