Es Alert

Post by John Faulkner, Skegness » 18 Mar 2018 10:07

Yes! Es!

Only on 10m so far, but quite a lot of it around Europe. Also lots of extended something or other, (DX Maps reporting this as "Unknown" propagation, but looking a lot like Es extensions from the Middle East.

Hmmm. There's no sign of it after a quick check here:

Ohhh. It was there today in the morning for sure as I copied the details. It looks like someone removed it. I was surprised with almost 4000km Sp-E distance in March.

Well, I would say that the chances of receiving Iran on FM in the Netherlands high up the band via Sporadic E in mid March are so remote as to be for all intents and purposes, zero!
Good DX.

I didn't see the Iranian logging. I was just aware of the extended props on 10m.

Es happened to get up into band 1 too, as Andy's log shows, but Iran on 105 MHz and nothing below? Hmm.

If you log something in Fmlist by mistake or to make a test, and then you delete it from Fmlist, the wrong log will remain anyway in Dx Maps.
It can happen, for example, if you log in Fmlist a dx some days after the reception and you forget to change the date.

Take a look to dxmaps and to Fmlist, as a demostration of this "bug".
I have logged as "test" a false tropo reception and I delete it immediately from Fmlist; but you always find it in Dxmaps.

I've done that! That is not a bug - it is human error. Now I am in the habit of turning DX Maps off by clicking the button whenever I am logging old data. It is also useful to do this in a strong opening when everyone is posting their logs in real-time as the connection to DX Map can and has slowed things down inFMList.

That's a good point Dave. I forget to turn off DX Maps when going through old files, as I have been doing lately.
