Medium Wave

Post by John Faulkner, Skegness » 10 Oct 2017 13:28

We have had a good run of low geomagnetic activity over the last few days. Lots of K1s and 0s.

The Solen forecast http://www.solen.info/solar/ says minor storm conditions are possible from today until the 12th. When this blows out, medium wave could just produce some nice surprises. I hope this blows early evening as Asia could be enhanced. If it happens later, an overnight blowout could improve the chances of logging a few exotics from the other side of the Pond.

Nice to see the word "SPOTLESS" on the solar disc today!

Good DX!

The ionosphere has just taken a hit so hopefully something interesting in the next few hours.

No blow out as at 2100 UTC. Recorded 1700-2000UTC and will Check for Far East but don't know when. What did you hear John this evening 10/10/17? Still working on 08/10/17. As John says a blow out between 0600-0900 UTC could bring in some unusual stations. Recent reception of 1510 KGA reached down to Herefordshire.

I also noticed a music station on 1520 at the same time KGA was coming through. Maybe KKXA? Format sounded like C&W.

Yesterday evening was very disappointing, but I still haven't checked my 2200 slot.

The only decent Asiatic signal were from regulars 738 BEL2, 972 HLCA, 1098 CNR11, 1143 BEL3 and 1156 HLAZ. They weren't as good as the previous evening, apart from CRI 1521 which was a full S5 on Jaguar. I think this is the strongest signal from them so far.

Japanese 'regulars', if that's the correct word, were down in the noise at time signal level. 1350, 1278 and 1413 only. Nothing from 594. No other Asiatic time signals were noted, so I guess things were too quiet. I have noticed this before with the Far East. There is an optimum quietness which, once exceeded, Asia drops out a little.
