Arrived today
Definitely has potential for travel use.

I’ll get the defects out of the way first
There’s images of FM from Llangollen and Holme Moss in the 30-33mhz range however the Elad has these too! - just weaker, any idea of the mechanism causing these?

Ridiculously short antenna, i can’t imagine the thinking by that. So the inclusion of the wire antenna is logical, I like the ring on end of the long wire is great for hooking on curtain rails or window handles.

The 87.5 -108 DSP FM section seems equal to the tecsun type portables but limited to 100khz steps and slightly handicapped by the short aerial.

I tried to see if the CB band was AM or FM by monitoring 27.78 (UK 19) but no activity happened, I’ll guess its AM from how the mush sounds

I didn’t have any reliable local test signals in the 30-88 range
The 30-230mhz section is continuous and the nfm mode is narrower than the nfm mode on My uniden 3500.

Tuning 92.6 in NFM produced Radio 3 Pendle Forest
The DSP mode couldn’t winkle out such a weak signal next to sutton coldfield so
I appreciate having DSP FM and nfm in the same unit even though the nfm option only works with low modulation stations like Radio 3 etc.

I found an amateur on 145.55 so that bit works
The local pagers came in in the 153mhz range but pleasingly I didn’t find any spurious breakthrough except those FM bc images I mentioned

It was stepping through vhf in 25k , from the manual I gather it can be changed but I haven’t found out how yet

Airband mode steps in 5k, Manchester information radio 128.175 was weak but clear which is a reasonable result

I like the tuning buttons on the side, it means i can dx one handed while walking.
I like how the tuning speed increases with pressure

Friday night is taxi night
The 737 is pulling in the regular taxis on 85mhz quite well

Tim that seems to be an error in the manual which is a pity, although you can tune through the FM bc band in 25kHz steps (in narrow or wide FM) if you select the VHF band rather than the FM band.

Just seen a video of someone demonstrating the cb band on this thing
Seems to be AM mode

Still not totally redundant as it’s nice to have that band as a separate one for ease of switching between HF BC and 11m

Just need some conditions now to test it - the eternal cry of the dxer!

I suppose I can post some HF logs

I’ll be taking it pirate hunting in London in February in London

The small size is a bonus, i can take it to places I wouldn’t normally take a rx

regarding the 25k steps,
it seems i'm not missing anything on the 12.5k steps

on the hrd 737,
a local trunking data signal on 177.2625 is audible on 177.275 but not 177.250

the pattern is repeated elsewhere

(Edited to fix confusing typo 21/12/19)

67.05 was acceptable for (67.04)
No significant distortion noticed in WFM mode
I have a video I’ll try to upload

Thanks. Unfortunately no OIRT FM here so can't test the HRD-737 myself.
