I suppose the price premium is for the ability to record the whole FM band, which most likely is going to take a lot of drive space unless a compression method has been found for the latest release.

Doesn't the overall performance roll off due to the wider bandwidth?

We need to wait for one of our wealthy members to buy one and evaluate its FMDX performance. I'm sure one or two are tempted.

The logical thing would be to think the overall performance will be penalized because of the extremely broad bandwidth, do you think so?.

I don't actually think it is available yet.

They started publicising this last year. It's taking rather a long time to surface. Problems?

I also read that the performance would be compromised because of the extra bandwidth.

apart from the ability to record 24mhz - which my current computer couldn't cope with anyway
does it do anything else interesting? whats the coverage?

65-280mhz would be nice ;-)

It is not just the ability to record 24 MHz - but that it has 16 bit ADC. If you want something cheaper that will record the whole FM Band in one go there is the LimeSDR mini which is supported by SDR Console v3 and is currently advertised at $159 for the bare board + $15 dollars shipping from Crowd Supply.com. It has a 12 bit ADC - so the same resolution as Airspy or SDRPlay RSP1A (at 8 MHz b/w). It will also need external band-pass filters and a 65-108 MHz bpf shouldn't be too difficult to construct - although as the lower frequency range is 10 MHz a 108 MHZ LPF would probably do and that is easy to make.

I'm not planning to get one - I reckon it will need more CPU than I can afford to give it - but when this PC needs replacing I will be tempted - but then I will need a bigger external hard drive....

Lime SDR at 12 bits would almost certainly overload here.

Beginning to think that the S3 is vapourware, given that it is now 2 years late. Not at all convinced we will ever see it.

What is vappourwarer? (I tried to correct that several times but I had to give up as it would not correct.)

Vapourware is a term originating from the software industry whereby fantastic sounding apps (programs for old timers) are announced but are never released.
