D4Q or Supertuner IIID ?

Post by benko5009 » 11 Nov 2017 11:54

As I know Supertuner IIID technology is used in Pioneer unit in USA and Australia,(and in some other countries) the D4Q used in Europe.
Had anybody make a comparison of the two ?
Which one is better ?
Are there any possibility in Europe to get a Pioneer car audio with Supertuner IIID ?
From USA it's not OK, due narrower to frequency range (87.90 - 107,90) perhaps from Australia where the same range used as in Europe.

Best regards,

As for the second question, yes. I actually bought one fairly recently. See my website here. Pioneer D4Q system was implied, in the car stereo, sometime between 2003-2007. Note that some 2007 models don't have it. What I would advise is to look on to the unit maual. These are often available for free online. You will not find any mention about D4Q in the manual. No. The only way to classify the stereo as the one with D4Q is too look for Selecitvity in the manual. If it states 80dB (+/-200kHz) that's the one you need.

Also all Pioneers with D4Q have Sensitivity rated at 8dBf. And finally, D4Q symbol should be printed on the front panel.
As far as I can tell Pioneer DEH models have D4Q. In example Pioneer DEH-5700MP have it for sure.

So you think the D4Q is the SAME as Supertuner IIID ?
I also have a Pioneer DEH-4700MP(D4Q), I just wanted to compare let's say with a DEH-580MP(Supertuner IIID).

From https://pioneer-mea.com/en/technology/supertuner-iiid/:
Supertuner IIID

Pioneer’s legendary Supertuner IIID combines the best of digital and analog tuner technologies to reduce distortion to bring you exceptional FM and AM performance. If you live in an area where reception is weak, you’ll hear a big improvement in signal strength. And when you’re near tall buildings, Supertuner IIID reduces the effect of multi-path noise, which occurs when the signal is reflecting off of the buildings.
Could it be that 'Supertuner IIID' and 'D4Q' are just different marketing terms for the same thing, i.e. DSP processing inside the tuner for adaptive selectvity and elimination of multipath distortion?
Good DX.

I doubt Pioneer would be doing different receivers for Europe at the same time. I just had a look at the manual of DEH580MP and I don't see the difference (apart from the frequency range) in FM tuner's specification. I never had SuperTuner IIID, but I would say there's no difference between DQ4 and the SuperTuner IIID. Just different name for different markets. There's a difference, however, between Pioneer SuperTuner and SuperTuner IID. IID is a successor of SuperTuner. I don't know if there were Pioneer models for Europe before D4Q which were equal to SuperTuner.

("MP" in the DEH model's name means the receiver comes with a pre-out output)
