Volkswagen Car radio RCD210 problems

Post by Sniffingmoose » 22 Oct 2016 21:19

The RCD210 fitted in the car was an excellent DX radio until recently. However 2 weeks ago its went deaf. It will only pick up BBC Nationals from Sutton Coldfield. At first the problem was intermittent now it seems to be permanent. The heated rear window is the antenna. I have removed the tailgate trim and checked the antenna connection, also I have taken the radio out and checked the antenna connection at the radio end and this seems OK. However when I disconnect the antenna connection and reconnect it to the radio it is sensitive again for about 5 seconds. This behaviour is really strange to me. I now think it may be the radio itself. Any advice would be appreciated.

There maybe an amplifier in the aerial circuit often the case with windscreen aerials might be located behind the dashboard somewhere so worth checking it out.
Found some info on Volkswagon aerial systems.
