UK closures

Post by PFM907 »

Bauer has announced closure of the following stations

999 kHz - GHR N/W - Preston Longton site 800 watts (only remaining UK site on this QRG will be Gold Network from Nottingham)
1152 kHz - GHR N/W - Ashton Moss site 1500 watts (many other UK remaining here)
828 kHz - GHR York - Leeds Morley site 120 watts (Asian Network Wolverhampton and Smooth Bornemouth remain)
Medium wave services carrying Greatest Hits Radio in Lancashire, Manchester and Leeds, plus Magic in Humberside are being switched off.

The changes will be taking place at the end of April, and follow GHR being available on FM in addition to DAB in most of these areas.

not much, but it is a start, at last.

I'll second your first sentence Stuart. Hopefully there will be many more UK closures to follow. Pity they aren't leaving FM too.

I hope there will be more to come up.
the interesting UK stations are very few and those ones are not affected (Manx radio, Caroline) or already gone (Absolute Classic Rock - after only 10 months!).

no need in Greatest Hits, Smooth, Gold, Absolute, Talksport and others. would be a pleasure if all of them would be gone soon!!!
it is a soup on the band with all of them. also BBC Radio 4, 5 live...occupying the band ten times.

Radio 4 has long wave, FM and DAB coverage 100 per cent!!. why do they still need medium wave??? who is listening to Radio 4 on Medium wave??none!

living on the continent, I have tons of small power UK; like 1197, 1233, 1242, 1260...who needs this?

ONE transmitter on 1215 and all others can go away.

BBC always want total coverage. You only have to look at their FM coverage maps to see how much larger areas they cover than their equivalent commercial local stations. SPREAD! The BBC want to air their views to the world and the more frequencies they have the better for them. I wish the Biased Bullshit Corpration would disappear!

My dream would be:

1. all Romania blablabla close!
2. all Spanish blablabla close!
3. all LPAM (NL+Italy) close!
4. all UK close!

after that, medium wave could become quite a paradise...to receive Sri Lanka, Thailand and others.

Lots! :D

Most are too rude to mention here. Some funny ones below.

DIET - Do I Eat Today?
BING = Bing Is Not Google
VISTA = Very Inconsistent Software – Try Again

FORD = Fixed Or Repaired Daily
BMW = Big Money Waster
VOLVO = Very Odd Looking Vehicular Object
ACRONYM = Alphabetical Code for Remembering Odd Names You Make up

PAL = Picture's Always Lousy
NTSC =Never Twice the Same Colour
SECAM = System Essentially Contrary to American Method

This is now totally OT = Off Topic. Will move to another thread if anybody adds any more.
