I understand that Europe 1 has announced the cessation of its LW service at the end of the year. There is no mention of 183 on the https://www.europe1.fr/frequences]liste des fréquences and I can't find any other references to the termination.

The convention is to turn off your AM tx at midnight at New Year so I'll try to listen at 23:00z for the end of this old friend.

According to mediumwave.info, there are been some official messages from the management of Europe 1 confirming the end of broadcast on LW
(https://mediumwave.info/news.html )
It's a little sad but it's maybe unavoidable (especially after the end of MW in France).
But I don't understand why Europe 1 never turned his frequency into a "multiple of 9" one: I reckon that the most of common receivers and car radios are not able to tune on exactly 183 kHz and that didn't help the audience to stay numerous.

I wasn't listening but reported to have switched off at 22:28z. There's no carrier now, but 153 continues

I have listened to it for the last time at around 10 pm CET. It was there but it seemed to run at reduced power, the signal was much weaker than what strength it was before.

Yes, I've tried to listen to it in the late afternoon but the strenght of signal was very low here.

There is already a video in YT about the very last moments of this broadcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KwmcpcER2g .
Sadly, everything have had a very low profile... (a simple and mere "cut" of a phone call, no mention of what was happening....).

I also suggest a nice video I've found about the history of that transmitter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2TgS2S6xwM&list

There would be arguments for and against.

Moving down to 180 (after 177 was shut down), 180 may have been more easily disturbed (than 183) on less selective receivers in parts of France where 162 was very strong (which was till going with audio at the time).
Also 171 Morocco may have at least slightly affected 180 on the south coast of France where there was no such problem with 183.

I suspect the vast majority of radios with LW in France tuned in 1 or 3kHz (if digital tuned) steps to take account.

A far more beneficial LW move for the still existing transmission concerned would be if RTE's LW could move from 252 to the now empty 261, as 252 is badly battered at night by Algeria (within Ireland), but no sign of it happening.
