Medium wave shut downs in UK

Post by Tim Bucknall » 14 Sep 2018 10:23

Can any members report status of their local BBC AM transmitters?

Particularly:
Hull 1485
Wiltshire, all
Sussex, all

Lincoln 1368 is presumably gone now as Manx Radio is qrm free here for the first time ever

Stoke & Merseyside are staying on for the time being

My Local CR Heritage AM is still on 1602 while the FM tx is being sorted.

Thruxton raceday Radio have left AM and moved to 87.7

Lincolnshire 1368 has gone, leaving an equal strength Manx Radio, so no benefit there.

1485 Hull has gone, opening up 1480 and 1490.

Not sure about Merseyside as all I hear on there is Spain at night. There's something there very weak in the daytime but it's not parallel with their web stream, so have they gone?

As Tim says Merseyside is still with us, tuned in on a couple of remote SDRs. Carlisle Radio 4 was hovering underneath at just-audible-sometimes level on one of them.

If you're on the east coast then one or more of those Dutch 1watt licensed stations could also be possible at 1485. Does that count as good or a nuisance?

It's kind of interesting and they won't present me with a big problem. I used to listen to the Dutch pirates at the top of MW some years ago, so these little stations do have some interest to me.

Thanks John I was hoping you'd reply

it would be interesting to see the Dutch LPAMS logged, one on 1332 is 200milliwatts! i sure hope it has a distinctive offset
if not for the noise i'd love to try and catch some

1485 would prob not be free if they were gone, theres Spain 4, Romania 4 & Iran (400kw on a Low power channel!), I don't think i've seen exotics logged on 1485 outside scandanavia.

some channels are getting nicely empty in Europe: 1440, 927

or have just one station: 1494,783, 1611, 1422, 1476, 1512

i might download one of JFs files and see what the new open band looks like

Medium wave is perfect for a mountainous rural place like Romania, they totally own AM in Poland & Ukraine like spain does here. they even have tuning calls!

A few of the 1395 stations come in strong here - Seabreeze and Studio Denakker, I think
