RAF exercise - Mil Air Band 6/1/16

Post by Tim Bucknall » 06 Jan 2016 14:18

exercise possibly called "Havoc" heard this morning provided a good chance to test Mil Air reception
since we don't have a more relevant forum i'll share here

1048-1128utc

247.000 air to air chatter- "i still need to fly over water so i'm going back to Wales", querying target(?) Q: "why is that illuminated?" A: "someone pressed the PT"
280.345 Swanwick Relay, Clee Hill, Shropshire
280.35 Havoc traffic talking to Swanwick MiL
292.525 Swanwick Military handling traffic from "Havoc"

the 236-335mhz segment on the Alinco DJ-X11e's sub rx is not guaranteed and I was just about to write it off as useless (deaf and full of spurious civil air signals) and disable it in the scanners set up menu when I finally heard a legit signal on it - Swanwick 292.525

out of the box the IC-9500s am filters are useless for airband- 9khz is too narrow to sit on a channel and hear both + & - offsets
but now I feed its IF out into the Reuter SDR I can use a 14khz am filter and monitor all sides of a conversation
