Hi John.

I accidentally deleted yesterday evening's files so I can't check. I remember hearing something English sounding on 1008 but it wasn't as clear as in your recording. Well done on your Korea's catch too!

At a guess, I wondered if Radio Pakistan had English news on the hour? There's also RTI Taiwan on 1008, but the last logging in MWList was 2527 days ago, so I suspect they are off the air. Or have they returned?

Other than these, I really don't know.

Thanks for your comment John, this indeed a very strange catch.

Maybe you're right and it could well be Pakistan news on the hour.

Pity that there was no Pakistan on their other frequencies to check on 2000 utc.

Maybe something for RealDX.

John
It sounds like it is this one
CHN CRI News Radio 24h en Ürümqi 3kW
The speaker sounds like a Chinese person speaking English with an American accent. I used to receive CRI English News Radio on another freq when Bangkok last year.

Hello Peter,

I think you are right, the male speaker, the longer I listen to the clip, the more
it sounds he speaks indeed with an accent.

So it must be them.

Case closed I think...

It is not RTI or KBS, both do not have their english programs on this frequency. (KBS in english is on 972 and 1170 and it is called Pops Freedom).
CRI has in fact two 24/7 english language outlets on 1008:

CRI News Radio Urumqi
as well as
CRI around the clock Beijing
I am sure it was one of them but only you can sort out which one it was depending on the direction / angle of your antenna.

KBS 3Radio on 1008 is a good log, too.
Congrats to both receptions, the chinese one is very clear.

Quite a surprise that none of the NL LPAM is interfering?

I was going to plump for CRI News Radio from Urumqi in view of the fact that Urumqi 1521 was so strong yesterday evening, but MWList has no recorded logging of that. Instead, the Beijing outlet of CRI Round The Clock is listed as broadcasting in English (MW List says Urumqi broadcasts in "zh" whatever that is.) and Beijing has been logged '234 days ago'. I don't know who has logged it of course. But it might suggest that Beijing is more likely.

CRI News Radio is English. MWlist quick and easy
https://www.mwlist.org/mwlist_quick_and ... 2&kHz=1008
says
CRI News Radio 24h en
( zh is Chinese) Urumqi is listed as 3kW though.
