The Canadian eBay seller used to sell both - fixed and variable. The null is frequency dependent and to be honest I don't bother anymore. In France there are so many Spanish stations to the south it is not worth the effort to null one. I suppose I could try and null 1485 here to open up 1480/90 but there are many frequencies!

u can set the null with a variable resistor and measure the value with a multi meter and replace it with fixed ones with the same value but i just use a variable and get the null and foget about it David

What you should find is that, after setting the resistor to null a station mid-band, that null should be effective across the whole band. Gradually tapering off at the band edges, possibly, but the null should be band-wide to a large degree.

Never got a null that broad. Though the Flag is inherently uni-directional so will accentuate signals off its back anyway.
