Jaguar 4

Post by simbeav » 19 Sep 2018 12:01

Anybody tried it ?

I tried viewing last night's files with it and couldn't find a way to view the dayscan (In fact dayscan appears to have gone ! Very strange.

Probably a learning curve, but I prefer to spend my time dxing :)

I am still getting used to Jaguar v4. Try AUTOSCAN, available from the "S" button, same location towards the bottom left. This replaces DAYSCAN and EXTENDED SCAN.

There's also MONITOR and HOMESCAN in there, which I haven't used yet.

I am running AUTOSCAN all the time, for 9 kHz Asiatic DX in the evenings, and for 10 kHz overnight TA DX. AUTOSCAN also replaces EXTENDED SCAN. If you think about it, DAYSCAN and EXTENDED SCAN were the same, but one was a brief summary while the other was a more detailed waterfall. AUTOSCAN does both, but in one operation. Set it so you get the same as the old DAYSCAN or EXTENDED SCAN, or make it even more detailed.

I have set mine to collects all waterfall data overnight so it is ready for me to see in the morning. I use "8" as the speed. It's excellent and another huge leap forward in SDR monitoring.

You've still got YASLOGS in there.

I have also been using COBRA, which snaps the cursor straight to the carrier, resulting in more accurate carrier measurement, instantly, whle stopping that audio phase-cancellation you sometimes get when you are very slightly off frequency.

Use SETUP in S, (bottom left in the W Y S M buttons). For the record, I cancelled HOMESCAN and MONITOR as I don't currently use them.

I am half way through a note-taking session on this morning's reception. I'll post this shortly.

Thanks. That explains things. It's another format change, so that scans from version 3 don't work. I've got a few old files to catch up on and don't really want to be switching versions, so I'll wait until I catch up to switch.

Sounds good. It's good to keep the older versions, at least for a short while. I will be using the v4 AUTOSCAN permanently now. Probably too much juice for my laptop, so I may use v3.1 for that, unless I slow down the autoscan speed. Tests needed.

Tried again last night and had to give up.

Although my primary and secondary disks were showing correctly on the information screen as H: and F: the files were actually being recorded to a Mestor folder that had somehow been created in my C: root and this was what was showing on the File Name line on the Information screen.

I couldn't find out why and recording to my C: would be a disaster, so I gave up. Of course V3 forgor all my settings which it frequently does recently and so I didn't have Dayscan running automatically overnight b*** !

Anybody have a similar issue with V$ and/or know how to solve it ?

Are V3 and V4 both in separate folders with their own jaguar.ini files?

Yes. But both point to the same recording folders. Perhaps it detects incompatible scan files and defaults to c: I'll try changing that.

I've had a few anomalies like this.

Firstly, remove all Jaguar software you don't want to use. Either delete it or zip it up for as a backup.

Place a new copy of your preferered Jaguar version in the folder. Might be best to try a new folder in case anything is getting confused due to older versions being left on the drive.

Remember, Jaguar is not actually installed. It is a standalone application.

Check your primary and secondary recording drives in your chosen version's JAGUAR.INI file. Change anything else in there too before you reset Jaguar.

Run Jaguar, then close down using RESET.

That does the trick for me.

You can use MESTOR to change the contents of your INI file too. Just remember to RESET when re-starting or the old settings may be kept.

Finally got round to trying again. Just changed the recording folders to different ones to V3 and it "appears" to be working OK.

Fingers crossed for the recordings tonight !

Jaguar does write log files to the recording locations so that is probably the issue.

So can you export overnight traces for a particular channel as a PDF or similar?

No. You can do a screen grab though.
