Tip For DaveB

Post by John Faulkner, Skegness » 14 Sep 2018 23:06

The Taiwan Fisheries station at Baisha on 1143 was fair/clear on the hour at 19:00, 20:00 and 21:00. The signal came up particularly well at 20:15 and 21:00.

Hi John,

Thanks for the tip but the band wide interference on MW was going with vengeance - with the peaks 45dB above the noise floor. At the moment it has improved to 'only' 30 dB but keeps jumping back up. So no DX last night or in the early hours of the morning. :x

With the interference at the 30 dB level rather than 45 dB there is a chance of DX below 850 kHz, in the gaps between the sawtooth.

I may well abandon attempts at MW DXing altogether - but I want to work on the MkII version of the amplifier for the loop antenna which uses a pair of transistors and ferrite core matching transformers. Not that I expect to cure the interferenceon MW - it's more a project thing.

Damn! That's a ******d! Sorry to hear this. My own noise seems to have returned, only to a minor degree so far, and isn't a major problem at the moment, but my main blocks of noise are still absent. Hopefully whatever device was causing that last season has gone for good.
