Yes Radio Victoria was quite strong here this morning. Something else mixing with it about 04:30, possibly Formula 3, but not sure.

[edit] Sorry still half asleep. The strong station was of course Capital. The mixing station later was probably Victoria as it was on the same offset as when I heard it earlier in the year. Sorry.

I had a US talk station on 1510 around 03:40 - I don't think that I have had much since WMEX went off. I suppose from past experience that WLAC is most likely.

Thanks for the tip David. Something there, but too much splatter for an ID. Out of interest do you remember if there was mention of a sportscast around 0445 ?

Worth checking 1450 this morning. I have a very weak station plating middle eastern sounding music. Maybe somebody has a better signal and can hear if there is an ID (I think the music plays on over toh)

1450 is splattered out here Simon due to semi-local Gunthorpe on 1449. Even though it is already well reduced to the point of being able to hear BBC R4 from Aberdeen at equal strength at night (Saudi Arabia I think), it's still capable of destroying 1450.

A question please - what was yesterday morning like with everybody? I thought my antenna was faulty. TA was non-existent! Just a few weak carriers.

In fact I can barely hear any TA this morning! A very weak WWKB on 1520 is the best I can manage.

Iam Radio was blocking 1350 throughout the night. Grrr!

Yesterday was poor here.

This morning, I had the mystery on 1450,

1650 there was a religious music sounding station with a possible ID at 05:00, but I couldn't make it out - Didn't sound English or Spanish.

750 had a Spanish station dominant at 02:30 which was not Caracas. Most likely Argentina, but I have had Radio Caravana from Ecuador before.

Apart from that, WWKB was really booming in, wMFE strong at times, CJLV booming in, CKDO OK at times etc.

I'm suprised that you didn't get some of them.

Me too. Could be the 'wrong coast' effect, but I have been experimenting with the flag over the last few days. Trying different sizes and horizontal wire positioning. Noise levels are very low if I am careful, but at the risk of reducing everything else. The signal to noise ratio is key, but I don't want to reduce signals too much.

TA signals were good before I started playing, so I don't know what's happened. It could just be conditions.

Don't you have a semi-local "beacon" station that you can check reception on?

If there is an issue check coax connection to balun.

I have re-wired the flag in its entirety only recently with a brand new length of coax, transformer, etc. It's all been working fine and I re-checked it all only yesterday.

I am tempted to hook it up to some RG213 while it's there. I was going to use this for ham radio operation this summer but I couldn't get the software to work.

Everything semi-local is working as I would expect, so it must be conditions. It's not the first time this kind of thing has been experienced. It's the 'East Coast Anomaly'. :)

Here in the sunny south of the French state in Cabardes it has been Pete Tong for last few mornings. The two strongest signals at 0500 UTC have been 1560 WFME and the Cuban on 1620.

I spoke too soon as 0500 this morning was interesting. There was an ID on the 1460 rock station at 04:57:30 - I can hear something like "hasta la viste 1460 WV" which would be a mixture of SS/EE. Unfortunately I recorded with stock Perseus rather than Jaguar Pro which has much superior audio. I've uploaded the ID to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tsndjc_OyrE

Anyone make it out better? There seems to be a much weaker ID just before - maybe different station.

It sounds to me as though he says WV - West Virginia? But I've been caught out before with MF distortion - hearing 2 letters when 4 are spoken!
