Better Conditions?

Post by John Faulkner, Skegness » 12 Dec 2017 12:43

Surprised to hear WWKB 1520 coming in well at 0900. This is LATE DX for the east coast. Carrier still visible past 11:30.

Although conditions are far from great, I have noticed a very regular and decent signal from CKAC 730 over the last few mornings. This is one of the strongest and most consistent TAs on the band at the moment.

It went downhill the day after I posted. Shocking season overall in spite of quieter conditions.

The Far East is picking up in the afternoons but only time signals are able to penetrate through the noise. Examples would be 594 729 972 1134 1170 1206 1224 1350 1413 1557 & 1566.

Definitely better this morning. Lots of signal across the band overnight. Some unusual carriers at audio level too.

A quick listen has revealed the following:

670 Radio Rebelde 0400 with numerous IDs
1380 Lively Latin music peaks at 0515
1520 YL non-stop talk at 0300, high on 1520.0403 offset. Sounds Spanish.
1650 XEAZR ID at 0800

670 R Rebelde is a nuisance station for some people but I rarely hear anything on this frequency.

I'm guessing 1380 is Ondas Del Mar. The 1379.9996 offset is about right.

Who is 1520?

Thanks for this Mark. I hear the het now. There's nothing in the latest MW Offsets list. I will write to them and see if they know who it is.It peaked around 0600 here. Gone by 0700. There's a bit of vague speech. I measure it at 1381.2246.

Thanks Mark. I got a reply from Andrew Brade on the MW Offsets list, saying it was most likely Radio Campesina from Cajamarca, Peru. That's only listed with 1 kW !! I don't see it in the UK All Time Log either. I had a nice het with 1500 at the same time Radio Santa Rosa, Lima), further indicating that yesterday was a Peruvian morning.

MUCH better conditions today. Will report back soon.

Lots of North American signals this morning. I hear 700 WLW and 840 WHAS very well, but nothing managed to peak on the hour, so IDs are hard to come by.

I managed to catch 690 CKGM behind 5Live splatter.

Did anybody else hear a Cuban on 1020 last night ? I had a pretty strong signal at 01:48 still going at 02:00, but no ID and then KDKA took over. I presume Cuba as the were lots of mentions of Havana and Santiago de Cuba and at 01:48 "Maykal Blanko y Su Salsa Mayor" , but it didn't seem the same programme as other Cuban outlets. I only have KDKA in my log for 1020. Simon

Just checked 1020 Simon. I didn't start recording until after 0200 yesterday morning. I hear a music station on 1020 at 0400+. Sounds very middle-of-the-roadish. Offset looks close to nominal.

Thanks John. The music being played by my station was a bit livelier than MOR, but I suppose they could be the same station - You can have quite a different range of programmes over 2 hours.
I see Barry heard something at 0400 as well and posted a clip to RealDX.

Mark,
I had it very briefly yesterday and stronger and longer today. I presume it is the station John heard recently and somebody suggested XEQI "Radio Nueva Leon". Simon

Quick edit - Radio Nueva Leon ID at 08:04:20 - Thanks for the tip !
