Who is leaving MW at the end of this year?

Post by John Faulkner, Skegness » 06 Dec 2017 15:54

I know there are supposed to be a few local BBC transmitters leaving the air at the end of this year, I say "supposed to be going" as I half expect another stay of execution. But who else is leaving?

I understand that the Houdeng tx of RTBF Vivacite is leaving 1125 at the end of December. What about 621 Wavre?

Flevoland 1008 should also be gone.

Any others?

Sorry to tell you "bad" news John: 1008 got an extension to 2019.

621 appears to be staying until the southern Belgium's DAB installs are complete.

Regarding their website, it is not quiet sure when Groot nieuwsradio is about to stop.
They will, however, definitely continue until March 2018.
Their intentions are to carry on until the end of Jan. 2019, but this is not 100 % confirmed yet:

The "maybe until 2019" got updated in September when the mast received an OK for extended life. So it's now:
"Groot Nieuws Radio blijft tot 1 januari 2019 uitzenden via de middengolf"
"Groot Nieuws Radio will remain on MW until 1 January 2019"

Spain on medium wave

Post by PFM907 » 27 Dec 2017 13:56

I see. Thanks for confirming this. Anyway, regarding the verification, they did not manage to refresh the information given on their homepage, so far...

SPAIN

A few have left already, such as
1008 kHz - Radio Las Palmas (CNR)
828 kHz - HIT FM Collserola (BCN)

Concerning Spain I would like to advise you to some interesting listings (as EMWG is outdated since 2015):

spanish MW listings in alphabetical order of the network name:
http://aer-dx.es/listas/eaenom_c.pdf

spanish MW listings in frequency order upcounting from low to high:
http://aer-dx.es/listas/eaenom_f.pdf

spanish MW listings in geographical order of the provinces / regions:
http://aer-dx.es/listas/eaenom_l.pdf

RNE public broadcasting service MW listings in the provinces / regions:
http://www.minetad.gob.es/telecomunicac ... Espana.pdf
http://www.minetad.gob.es/telecomunicac ... spana.xlsx (Excel worksheet)

number of spanish MW stations operating on each frequency (very interesting document - the most can be found on 855 kHz):
http://www.minetad.gob.es/telecomunicac ... cional.pdf

these files compared to older listings (EMWG) will give a good view on how the situation has been changed over the past 3 years.

local programming due to mediumwave.info:

Mo-Fr
RNE regional programming: 0745-0800 local time
Onda Cero local programming: 0755-0800 local time
Cadena SER regional programming: 0750-0800 local time
COPE regional programming: 0756-0800 local time

I wonder why medium wave is still such popular in Spain...they have excellent FM coverage

I half expected BBC Radio's Lincolnshire and Humberside to have disappeared from the medium wave dial, but they are both still there this morning. There are no looped playbacks advising listeners to change frequency, etc., which does not bode well.

Hmm. I wonder if they will lower the licence fee now I am paying for less services. Pah! As if.

Both 621 and 1125 from "Wallonian Republic of Belgium" are now confirmed to be gone until the End of 2018:

However, I am not quite sure this is definitely the final step. 621 was off air couple of days ago for few days.

Apart from my local Boston (Kirton Drove) which isn't mentioned!I presume it is staying on because of the poor analogue coverage in this rural part of England.

good news.

it is no pleasure listening across the canal on 1215 / 1242 / 1197 (also 1053 / 1098 /...) with all those unsynchronized txs causing only echoes and noise
would be a much better situation with GOOD audio quality

1215 is a massive signal after dark in Southern France.

Along with all BBC transmitters and all Spanish and Romanian transmitters. They are the biggest obstacles to my MW DXing.

I can only agree. Romanian transmitters are the biggest obstacles on my location. But they will stay on Medium Wave for years......
