An Improvement?

Post by John Faulkner, Skegness » 12 Sep 2017 10:06

A few more bits of TA audio this morning and stronger carriers.

1280 WCMN?
1290 Possibly YVLF
1350 V weak. Possibly Spanish.
1400 Harbour Light.
1540 2 x stations. One R Bahamas at a guess.
1560 WFME.
1570 Something.
1580 Two with v v weak audio.
1600 Several carriers at near audio or v weak audio level.
1620 R Rebelde.
1660 WGIT.

Overnight noise levels have shifted to the middle of the band lately with -90dB of noise around 800 - 1100 kHz. Dropping to -120 dB at the band edges.

I re-sited the flag in the quieter part of the garden overnight. That's the opposite side of the garden, but it made the overnight and daytime noise worse on this occasion. I'll have to wander around the streets in the night with a portable and see if I can find out where these things are coming from. Maybe I'll be able to null them.

Anybody else notice an improvement?

Slight.

Mostly carriers on the frequencies you mention. Audio from WMFE, 1540, 1570, CBC on 1400.
The station you got on 1570 is one I log every night - On numerous frequencies - especially when LA is coming in :D

Did anyone spot a station on 840 just after 0300 ? There was what sounded like an ID at 0301, then a jaunty tune and possibly another mention of the station name all by a yl. It sounded to me like Radio M......
The strange thing is that although I think it was Spanish, I'm sure that the first announcement was "This is Radio M...." Probably my imagination.
I wonder if anybody heard who it was ?

Nothing here. 840 is a difficult and well-splashed channel.

Wide guess, I know you said it began with "M", but what about Radio Bandeirantes from São Paulo? That could sound like an "M" at the start and may be the most likely South American on the frequency.

You could be right John. It was just too weak and splattered. 840 is difficult here as well and I only have WHAS logged on there. Another one that got away, but at least it was something.

Ok - I should have learnt from 950 a couple of weeks ago. It's (I presume it is the same station) there again only stronger and clearly not South American. I think it is Eritrea. Again, I didn't expect them to be on 840. Simon
