DRM on 1071kHz last night (France?)

Post by KPC850 » 09 Dec 2016 08:29

Tuning around last night around 8PM to 9PM on car radio I got a strong what I presume was DRM sounding signal ('block of noise') on 1071 .

I recall reading somewhere that there were plans to put a DRM digital MW transmitter on 1071 in northwest France, well it seems to have materialised

No sign of it this morning, the talksport 1071 fillers could again be heard where I am by skywave.

Anyone else here notice this ??

I doubt it would be France, it was quite strong this morning though less strong than last night.
I was trying to take an accurate bearing with the loop when it went off about 9:30 leaving Clipstone clear, but a domestic portable had shown it to be roughly N-S from here
Will check throughout the day

AIUI Smartcast is testing on 6170/6175

1071 is on now, lower level than before but the bearing is not so much N-S, more NE-SW, same bearing as Moorside Edge!

I have it decoding using Dream DRM. It's id'ing as "TDF SMARCAST diffusion DRM depuis Quimerc'h". It's relaying France Bleu Breizh.

I guess you're the nearest to it if it's in Finisterre, Stuart. Is it a continuous transmission or has it been on and off?
Odd they miss the 't' out of SMARCAST
I'll take the loop to the middle of a field tomorrow, see if I can confirm a due-South bearing

Was off-air when I checked a few mins ago before 2PM (and I'd be in weak groundwave range of it where I am here in southern Ireland)
Must be taking a break from testing for dimanche (Sunday)?

Here is how I hear it at my QTH. Obviously too many dropouts...

This DRM transmission is active again on 1071, noted in the past few days after apparently a long absence. AFAIK It is the only MW transmitter (of any mode) currently on air in France as 1593 has fallen silent recently. (as per other thread)
