Abkhazia on 1350 kHz

Post by senderjaeger » 22 Nov 2016 23:49

While checking TA channels for DX this morning (22 Nov) shortly past 0400, I came across a nice surprise and PF on 1350 kHz: Apsua Radio from Abkhazia was audible with a fair signal, but partially distorted modulation. Here's what it sounded like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2kP-Xd6SU0

TA conditions turned out to be rubbish with WEGP, WWKB and Caribbean Beacon being the only stations to produce decent audio.

Great catch Matthias. Exotic stations like this are always a thrill. good signal as well.

Suffice to say, absolutely nothing heard here !

Nice catch Matthias.

I thought I had a few weeks ago but the ID wasn't clear. I may have deleted the files now so hopefully this one comes back again.

Thanks, Simon and John. Fingers crossed that you'll receive them soon. I think I've read somewhere that they're on the air irrgegularly.

Was there a sizeable offset associated with this, Matthias? I can't work it out from your video. Whoever I received had a substantial offset. On the positive side I seem to remember.

Yes, zero beat was at approximately 1350.05 kHz (estimated by hearing).

I've just checked the recording with HDSDR and the ECSS locks on 1350.042 kHz.

Thanks Matthias.

Checkonmg this afternoon's files, I have positive offsets on:

1350.009
1350.040/1 (Drifts)

Neither are strong enough for audio, but I forgot to move my flag today so it is still in the main North American position.

I have obviously deleted all previous recordings which had anything like that. I will keep a lookout for this again, whatever it was that I had.

Good DX!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but for some time now I have been receiving a very strong carrier on 1350.0384 starting at just before 0400, and then fading to nothing within about half an hour.

Until today, I have never got audio (Argentina being too strong), but today I got an anthem at 0358 and the signal got strong for some talk about 0402.
Do these sound like Abkhazia ? The language seems similar to the recording from Matthias

Yes, it's undoubtedly Abkhazia. The national anthem of Abkhazia is heard in the first recording and the news with the distinctive jingle (the same I recorded last year) is heard in the second. Congrats on an excellent catch.

Thanks Matthias.

I thought it was. I kept turning up vocal versions of the anthem on Youtube and couldn't be certain.
