1749 - German and now English

Just before 8pm BST, there was a German-language current affairs program followed by a sign-off of what sounded like 'Christian Sendung' or similar. The frequency went quiet after the sign-off, but now there's English news instead.

Foreign accents are involved, which initially made me think of CRI. The signal isn't great but I don't think the accent at the moment is Chinese.

I also had German language on 1716 before 8pm. There is something on 1740 as well - possibly an Islamic programme? Bit of a mixed bag - I was never really aware of stuff being broadcast at the bottom of my radio's 'shortwave' band!

seems you have a XHdata D808 .???

These can have images on the low end of its SW range, do this calculation:
Try multiplying the displayed frequency by 7 and then subtract 360 from the results to get near the 'fundamental'

(1749 x7 ) -360 = 11883. Nearest channel 11885 kHz = China Radio Int.


The tell tale sign it is such as image - try changing the frequency up of down by just 1kHz (to 1748 or 1750), in either case if signal disappears (or way off tune) , this would not happen on a regular AM signal if actually on the frequency.

Thanks - this method confirms it's an image! I'm using the D-808.

I'm getting a signal on 1740 at the moment (as mentioned the other day!), and the corresponding freq. is 11820 which is transmitting the same programme - Radio Saudi.

The other one I thought was 1716 is actually 1715, and the same method confirms it's an image of CRI as I initially thought.

I have a 808 as well and I can hear 11820 loud on telescopic and weak on 1740.
