Hello Barry and welcome to the forum.

I hope somebody will be along shortly to answer your question about the Tecsun antenna.

I am also a G3. I have been trying to re-activate my station for a few days to take advantage of the Es using GT8. No luck, unfortunately, as the computer side of this always gets the better of me.

All the best, Barry.

John, G1VVP.

I never took the rae when I was in the raf in the 1950s if you were in the forces you were exempt if you were in radio trade.

Not a problem.

I am in Skegness, Lincolnshire. Originally from Nottinghamshire.

I love Manchester. A great city with so much happening. I was actually driving through Rusholme only a couple of weeks ago, looking for a curry house. Of course, there is such an enormous choice for that kind of thing on The Curry Mile, but there were far less available parking spaces than curry houses and so I had to drive on. A Nepalese establishment in Levenshulme satisfied my needs that evening.

My mother and father were in the RAF and I remember my father also saying how he didn't have to sit the RAE. I took my RAE in 1986 and became a G1, though I didn't begin to use my callsign until 2008. I lost interest fairly quickly as things like trying to fight my way through pile-ups was not my thing. If I ever take up amateur radio again, it will be an automated digital mode, such as WSPR or JT8. I could hide a small antenna in the garden. My landlord does not allow amateur radio antennas of any kind and I had to fight hard to get permission to have the FM antenna installed. The health and safety and insurance aspects were ridiculous. They can't touch me for small free-standing antennas though.

Not sure why I wrote that I am also a G3. Middle-aged moment. ;)
